Chloe asserted, “I don’t believe it. Julius must be inside, and you just won’t open the door, right?” She then shouted loudly toward one of the villa’s windows, “Julius! Julius!”

Inside the villa.

A woman, elegantly dressed, sat on a sofa by the floor–to–ceiling window, gracefully holding a cup of coffee. She took small sips, watching the outside world with a cold gaze and a sneer playing on her lips.

Suddenly, footsteps sounded. Julius walked down from upstairs and saw his mother in the living room. “Mom, Chloe is here. Why are you blocking her outside and not letting her in?”

Melody glanced at her son and said slowly, “What status does she have now that allows her into our house? If others saw her, what would they say about the Starhill family? It would certainly affect your future.”

“Mom, how can you say that? You watched Chloe grow up. How can you be so heartless?” Julius complained.

Melody sharply retorted, “How am I heartless? I’m doing this for your own good! The Sinclair family is ruined now. What if she latches onto you, latches onto our family? You need to remember your position; you are destined to marry someone from a suitable family background.”

Julius said impatiently, “Mom, aren’t you overthinking this? I only see her as a little sister. Now that her family is in trouble, do we really have to be so ruthless? The Starhill family and the Sinclair family still had a relationship, after all. If word gets out that we acted so heartlessly, it will reflect even worse on our family.” He then walked straight to the door, opened it, and headed outside.

Seeing her son act against her wishes, Melody slammed her coffee cup down on the table with an angry snap.

When Chloe saw Julius, she said happily, “Julius, I knew you wouldn’t ignore me.”

Julius opened the door and said to the maid, “You can go inside. Tell my mother I won’t be home for dinner.” Then he took Chloe’s arm and left.

The two arrived at a private room in a bar.

Julius looked at Chloe. Her eyes were red and swollen, and a distinct slap mark was visible on her face. She looked utterly distraught. “What happened to you? Why are you such a mess?”
