Madison looked at the photos, which included shots of two people standing in front of a car and others of them entering a café together.
Lilian picked up a photo from the floor, examining it carefully. She looked at Madison and sneered, “It seems Ms. Philips has deep ties with this Mr. Jake. However, if Ms. Philips is suffering from memory loss, I can help refresh your memory. This Mr. Jake originally appeared before me as Laney’s boyfriend. He and Laney conspired to kidnap my other two friends to hold them for ransom. Unfortunately for them, their plan failed, Laney was arrested, and this Mr. Jake went missing. Later, I learned from Laney that she was acting under your instructions, and this man is your subordinate, specifically sent by you to work with her. The goal was to capture me and–you now claim you don’t know him?”
Madison’s eyes were vicious. “Yes, I don’t know him.”
Merrick’s voice was sharp and merciless. “Jake, your boss says she doesn’t know you. In that case, I have no reason to hold back.”
He then instructed Eric, “Hand over all the evidence of this man’s crimes to the police. I believe these documents are enough to ensure his life imprisonment.”
As soon as Merrick learned Madison was targeting Lilian, he had instructed Xavier to capture this man who frequently appeared near Madison.
He hadn’t expected the man to reveal so much information, which had surprised him greatly.
Jake instantly panicked, looking at Madison. “How can you deny knowing me? I am Jake! I did so much for you; you can’t abandon me! You were the one who asked me to investigate Lilian. You were the one who told me to work with Laney to capture Miss Lilian and sell her overseas! Don’t you remember any of this? Everything was done under your direction!”
“You’re talking nonsense! You did all those things yourself! How can you push the blame onto me?” Madison said venomously.
Jake’s voice was full of anguish. “I have no past grievances or enmity with this young woman. Why would I ever harm her? If you hadn’t told me to find a way to eliminate Miss Lilian, I never would have done those things!”
“Silence!” Madison glared fiercely at Jake.
Merrick looked at Madison with disappointment. “What do you have left to say? If you weren’t terrified that Lilian was Anne’s daughter, why would you go to such lengths to eliminate her? The human testimony and physical evidence are all here. What more is there for you to deny?”
Madison rushed toward Merrick, grabbing his arm and weeping bitterly. “Dad, you have to believe me! I didn’t! I truly didn’t! Catherine was my sister; why would I hurt her? Dad, believe me!”
Merrick took a deep breath. “Fine, you won’t admit it, will you? Then I will make sure you are convinced both mentally and verbally.” He instructed Eric, “Bring the other person out.”
Madison was suddenly speechless.
