Chapter 788 Terms of Exchange
Lilian said placidly, “I am worried, of course, but will worrying help? If I say I’m worried, will you release my Master? To save both our time, sir, you should state your purpose quickly. If we can reach an agreement, then everyone will be happy. If we can’t, there will still be a result. Either you compromise, or I compromise. The worst outcome, at most, is that we’ll perish together. So, sir, please get to the point. There’s no need to guess my thoughts.“.
George looked at Lilian and laughed heartily. “Interesting! Truly interesting! That old fool Leonard’s children were selfish and cowardly, yet the apprentice he took–you–has admirable courage. I’m actually quite envious. How about you take me as your Master and become my student? If you do, you’ll gain both fame and fortune, and I can give you any resource you desire, even a status you could never reach in Dracovia in a lifetime. What do you say?”
Lilian looked at the man with scorn. “I’m afraid I must disappoint you, sir. We have a saying in Dracovia: My Master is my Master for life. The implication is that I will only ever have one Master. Furthermore, I don’t have a very good temper. I hold lifelong grudges and demand absolute retribution. Anyone who threatens me never comes to a good end. For example, your dog, including its master–I will spend my entire life making them pay for their actions.”
Lilian’s words stunned the men around them. In all their years, no one had ever dared to speak to their boss this way–it was an open threat.
Gray immediately shouted angrily, “Insolence! Who gave you permission to speak to Mr. Mildew like that?”
Lilian gave the man a cold look. “Stop with your minion act in front of me. He is your master, not mine, so stop trying to restrict me with your rules. I am sitting here talking calmly with your boss now, and that is already showing great respect. If you truly push me, none of us will walk away easily.”
George laughed loudly. “Is that so? Well, I look forward to seeing that.”
Lilian shrugged. “As you wish, Mr. Mildew. Now, can you state your purpose?”
George dropped the smile from his face, his expression sober. “I was very pleased with Ms. Lilian’s performance at the CR Medical Exchange Conference. Therefore, I sincerely invite you to come and work for me. Name your terms; whatever you ask, I will grant it.”
Lilian narrowed her eyes. “This is the purpose for setting up this elaborate trap and bringing me her
“That’s right,” George said directly. “After all, a medical genius like Ms. Lilian is truly rare. While the method of acquiring you was somewhat despicable, the goal was achieved.”
Lilian suddenly recalled what her Master had told her: he had participated in the CR Exchange Conference and was subsequently targeted by Radovia, who demanded he serve them, even going so to seize Leonard’s wife to threaten him. To prevent him from being controlled, his wife sacrificed herself, and the group gradually faded away after her Master went into hiding.
Her current situation was exactly the same as her Master’s was back then. If her guess was correct, these were the same people from all those years ago, and this Mr. Mildew… Thinking this, Lilian looked at George with intense hatred. “You are the man who destroyed his family–who took his wife and
