Lillian’s gaze fixed coldly on a corner of the table. She had wondered how those people managed to snatch her master away; as it turned out, it was the handiwork of that woman.
"Even though she comes by every day to see if the Master has returned, what’s the point?" Fenton grumbled from the side. "She didn't hesitate for a second to sell Mr. Leonard out back then. Why bother asking now?"
"You're saying she’s been coming here every day lately to ask about him?" Lillian asked.
"Yes," Fenton replied. "Perhaps she feels guilty. She stops by once a day, and when she sees Mr. Leonard hasn't returned, she leaves."
Lillian’s eyes flashed with a lethal sharpness. "If she feels guilty, then let her feel that way for the rest of her life." Thinking of everything her master had endured in Radovia, she felt like tearing Peach apart. The woman’s stupidity was staggering.
The next morning, shortly after breakfast, a knock sounded at the courtyard gates.
Fenton hurried over and opened the door. Sure enough, it was Peach, with Solomon following close behind.
Seeing Lillian in the courtyard, Peach was visibly shocked. "Ms. Harrington! You’re back! Does that mean my father was rescued too?" She couldn't help but peer around the yard.
Solomon was equally anxious. "Yes, Ms. Harrington, where is my father? Did he not return with you?"
Lillian’s laugh was brittle and cold. "Do you have any idea who took him? Those were the same people from twenty years ago—people who hated him with a burning passion. Do you have any idea what he went through? He was locked in a dark, cramped room and injected with drugs every single day. You were so worried about your son being tortured; did you never once consider that a man of his age might not survive that kind of treatment?"
Peach broke down into tears. "I’m sorry... I know I was selfish, but I didn't want this! I was truly at my wit's end!"
Solomon stared at Lillian in disbelief. "How can this be... are you saying my father... he..."
Lillian cut him off, her voice dropping to a frigid tone. "Master is in a coma. As for when or if he will ever wake up, it’s anyone's guess. Now, please leave."
