Sebastian’s brow furrowed, his voice dropping to a serious tone. "Yes. Some urgent matters have surfaced at the company that require my personal attention, so I have to go back. I should be gone for about a week."
Thinking about what his father had told him over the phone, his anger simmered just beneath the surface. He never expected Cary to attempt a comeback—it was a move that had truly caught him off guard.
Lillian looked at the simmering rage in his expression and hesitated. "Is it very serious? Do you need any help?"
Sebastian masked his coldness instantly, offering her a small smile. "No. I can handle it. Just take care of yourself and wait for me to come home."
Lillian nodded. "I understand. Stay safe." Though he hadn't gone into details, it was clear from his face that the situation was grave. She could only pray for his safety.
Standing nearby, Foster checked his watch. "We really must leave now."
Sebastian reached out, pulling Lillian into a tight embrace. "I wish I could keep you by my side every second of every day."
Lillian smiled warmly. "Go. I’ll be here when you get back."
Sebastian left for Murica that night, and the silence that settled over Ravenwood Manor felt unusually heavy in his absence.
Over the next two days, Lillian threw herself into her work. Between the launch of the real estate project and the upcoming premiere of The God of War, there was a mountain of decisions that required her final approval.
Richard snorted. "Is that so? Perhaps he needs to pay you a visit in Dracovia personally to settle matters. I wonder how dignified you’ll look then. You know exactly what the state of your marriage has been all these years. Don't wait until the last shred of your dignity is torn away."
"Are you threatening me?" Renee hissed.
"I wouldn't dream of it," Richard said, his voice dropping to a chilling, sinister whisper. "By the way, I heard you’ve been looking for your little partner. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you; you’re never going to find him."
Renee froze. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"He was picked up by the Dracovian authorities," Richard said mockingly. "Do you really think you’re powerful enough to find someone in a government black site? Everything you were working on—every piece of research—has been seized. You’re only still sitting comfortably in the Lindt family because of sheer luck. If I were you, I’d keep my head down, or you might find yourself joining him sooner than you think."
