Chapter 150 Galen’s eliminated
Finished
Jonna stepped-out of the office building into the freezing night air. The soldiers stood scattered across the asphalt over the heaps of dead zombies. Moving past them, Joanna casually flicked her wrists, absorbing all the glowing zombie cores off the pavement and vanishing them into her spatial storage.
Her analytical eyes scanned the lot, instantly noticing that Briggs and Galen were gone.
She walked straight to the van. “Julian,” Joanna ordered. “Go through that office building. Check it for supplies.” Julian nodded, walking back to Rachel and Kailee to coordinate the sweep.
Joanna tracked a set of heavy boot prints toward the steel warehouse. Slipped through the rolling doors she found an interior lined with processing machinery and stacks of animal feed bags.
Deep inside the dark room, under a single flickering light, stood Briggs and Will. They were standing over Galen, who was securely handcuffed to a chair. The soldier looked roughed up, with a dark bruise on his jaw and a split lip, but his eyes blazed with a defiant, angry glare.
Galen’s gaze snapped toward the entrance as Joanna stepped into the light. The moment his eyes locked onto her, his defiant glare vanished, replaced by an unmistakable flicker of pure fear.
Briggs stepped back, wiping his knuckles. “He’s just a puppet,” Briggs explained, his voice icy. “Galen was only supposed to report our movement data back to Jax. He doesn’t know the wider layout. His instructions were to maintain radio silence until the meetup in Eldon.”
Joanna leaned against a stack of feed bags, her posture completely relaxed. She crossed her arms, studying the trembling traitor in a smooth, conversational tone.
“Isn’t that interesting, though?” Joanna asked, a sharp smirk cutting across her face. “You’re supposed to meet the commander in the western sector of Eldon, yet Jax already pulled his entire unit out to the north tonight. He cleared out hours ago, Galen.”
Galen went entirely pale, his breath catching in his throat.
“He left you behind,” Joanna continued softly, her voice dropping into a deadly whisper. “You aren’t that important.”
1-I don’t…” Galen stuttered, his jaw trembling as he tried to swallow down the rising panic. “Jax wouldn’t… he promised-”
“Or is it maybe…” Joanna cut him off, her voice smooth, calculated, and entirely too calm. She stepped closer into the single beam of the halogen light, her analytical gaze locking onto the micro-expressions fracturing his face. “…you were actually meant to meet up with Jax because he never planned to go straight north tonight?”
Galen went entirely rigid, his breathing turning shallow.
“Now, instead of playing dumb, why don’t you share the real plan?” Joanna continued, a sharp, dangerous smile cutting across her lips. She leaned down slightly, trapping him with her eyes. “You plan to meet Jax at the Eldon mall itself, didn’t you?”
Galen went deathly pale, the last remaining trace of defiance draining from his face as his mouth fell open in silent shock. He didn’t say a word, but his expression confessed to absolutely everything.

Beside him, Briggs tensed instantly. His broad shoulders squared under his tight black thermal, his icy eyes
ing from Galen’s terrified face back to Joanna. As a veteran officer, he had read enough expressions in interrogation rooms to recognize absolute confirmation when he saw it.
Every piece of the puzzle Joanna had just thrown onto the table fit perfectly. Jax hadn’t fled the sector yet; he was waiting to ambush them at Eldon’s Mall using Galen to let Jax know when they arrived in the city.
Joanna looked away from Galen’s pale, trembling face and fixed her cold eyes on Will. “I recommend you search him and find the device he uses to communicate with Jax,” she said, her voice dropping into a flat, commanding tone. “We need his transmission line intact.”
Without waiting for an answer, she turned on her heel and walked toward the warehouse doors.
“Hey, Joanna!” Will called out behind her, jogged forward a few paces. He pointed to a massive stack of industrial grain bags lining the conveyor belts. “Do you want any of this feed? I mean, it’s the apocalypse. This stuff is probably still good to eat if we boil it down.”
Joanna stopped at the threshold. The vivid image of the seven zombie Angus cows she had just slaughtered in the mud flashed through her mind-their sloughing skin, foaming jaws, and the yellow tags marking the biological virus fed directly into their systems. A sudden wave of intense nausea hit her stomach, making her throat tighten.
She shook her head slightly, keeping her expression locked tight. “No thanks,” she said shortly, stepping out into the freezing night air.
Will watched the heavy rolling doors close behind her, completely oblivious to the biochemical nightmare she had just uncovered in the pens. He shifted his rifle, a small, slightly bewildered smile crossing his face. She can’t eat delicious fresh food forever out here, can she? he thought, looking back at the dull, chalky ration packs in his own tactical vest.
Just thinking about the incredible steak, loaded potatoes, and buttermilk fried chicken she had spread across that picnic table twenty minutes ago made him smile happily. In a dying city full of rot, knowing the Demoness and her crew carried a taste of the old world gave him a strange, profound sense of hope for the dark road ahead.
Joanna walked back to the van and climbed inside. Forty-five minutes later, her team emerged from the office building carrying salvaged food and supplies. Julian tossed eight large duffle bags into the back, and Joanna immediately vanished them into her spatial storage. Meanwhile, the soldiers finished clearing crates of processed meat from the warehouse.
The crunch of boots signaled Commander Briggs’s return. Looking cold and powerful in the dim light, he leaned against her window.
“Galen’s eliminated,” Briggs said with flat finality. His eyes narrowed slightly. “Why aren’t you riding with
