Chapter 172 But I Really Want To Kill Jax First

Finished

As the rain lashed against the glass, she thought about the tsunami racing toward Eldon. Time was entirely too tight. Letting Briggs soak and recover outside of her space would waste the precious hours they needed to flee the city. Realizing she had no other choice, she decided to explain that it was possible to bring him directly into her hidden world.

“There’s a way to get you inside my space so you can heal,” Joanna said, turning back to him with absolute urgency. “But to do it, you have to become part of a Bonded Partner system.”

With a fluid motion, Joanna reached into her pocket dimension and brought out a dense, gold-stamped parchment document, placing it on his lap. She quietly explained the Bonded Partnership Protocol-the absolute blood covenant that would grant him permanent access to her dimension. She laid it out with pure, logistical honesty: it would anchor his soul to her lifeforce, establishing a 100% absolute loyalty via a permanent neural bonding.

Briggs squinted through the haze of pain, his brow furrowed as he tried to read the ancient, glowing text on the page. He let out a weak, raspy chuckle.

“So my options are a permanent soul-binding contract to a girl who calls me ‘Sparky’, or chewing on civilian brains down at the mall,” he muttered, his lips twitching into a pained smirk. “Honestly, the zombie thing sounds a lot less complicated, but I really want to kill Jax first. Where do I sign?”

Joanna smiled, a genuine expression of relief washing over her face. “Inside my space, there is a hot spring that can stop the virus completely,” she assured him.

Briggs didn’t hesitate. Reaching up to his ruined shoulder, he took a dark smudge of his own blood and smeared it across the ancient parchment.

The moment his DNA met the gold-stamped text, a faint ripple of air shifted violently in the small accounting office. The ancient paper flared with a muted, localized shockwave of spatial pressure. Briggs’ eyes suddenly widened, his pupils contracting as a massive torrent of neural data flooded his mind. In a split second, he downloaded the entire layout, rules, and conceptual understanding of Joanna’s hidden pocket dimension. The sheer shock of the mental link made him gasp.

The rain outside was turning into a deafening roar, a reminder of the clock ticking against them. Seeing his shock, Joanna didn’t waste a beat. “Are you ready?” she asked in a rush.

Briggs gave a slow, rigid nod, bracing himself.

With a swift tug on their new neural bond, Joanna pulled him forward. In a sharp flash of displaced air, Briggs vanished from the leather office chair, leaving the blood-stained apartment completely empty as they stepped together into her hidden world.

Joanna slung his good arm over her shoulder and half-carried him over toward the bubbling hot spring. “I can give you a tour another time,” she muttered, her voice strained under his weight.

Briggs was completely dazed, his head rolling back as he looked around the sprawling landscape. Instead of freezing November rain, flowing blood, and ravenous zombies, the air here was warm, crisp, and incredibly peaceful. In the distance, he could see farm animals grazing quietly and fields of fresh food under a clear sky. A beautiful villa sat nestled near a massive warehouse.

He had no idea her “storage space” was so big. This wasn’t just a closet hidden in a pocket dimension; it was

an entirely separate world. For all his hard military exterior, a sudden wave of genuine emotion hit him deep in his chest. He felt profoundly moved, realizing that in order to keep him from turning into a

Onster, she had willingly shared her biggest, most dangerous secret with him.

“Get in, clothes and all,” Joanna said, pulling a small towel from her pack.

She helped him unlace his heavy combat boots, then used her knife to cut away the remaining shredded fabric of his shirt. As the blood-soaked cotton fell away, she stopped for a fraction of a second. Briggs possessed the massive, rugged build of a professional linebacker, his broad shoulders and hard-carved muscle radiating a distinct, unnatural heat from his newly awakened fire power. Despite the critical situation, Joanna felt her cheeks flush, blushing a little as she forced her eyes back to his injury. Was she about to get a nose bleed over this?

Still wearing his combat pants, Briggs eased himself over the smooth stones and into the steaming geothermal water. A deep, agonizing groan escaped his lips as the intense heat of the spring made contact with the raw flesh of the bite.

He slid down against the rock wall until the water reached his chest, pressing the small towel tightly over the shoulder wound to stop the bleeding. Sitting there in the tranquil warmth of the spring, his face remained deathly pale, his body trembling as his newly awakened immunity and the mystical waters began a violent, unseen war against the zombie virus.

While the hot spring water bubbled around him, swirling with a faint crimson tint from his shoulder, Joanna turned toward her warehouse. She returned a moment later carrying several sleek, high-grade combat suits and tactical gear, dropping them onto a dry stone near the water’s edge.

Briggs looked over the pristine Aegis gear and huffed a weak laugh. “That’s from Aegis Defense Solutions. Civilians shouldn’t have access to this hardware.”
