Chapter 181 No Eating People Aunty
Finished
Jonna blinked-wice, completely lost. Hungry? Is he asking if we’re hungry, or is he saying he’s hungry?
Deciding to just plow past the weirdness, she carried on with her pitch. “I only want an animal or two. We still have a lot of bread to trade, canned meat, turkey jerky…”
“….and shirts,” RJ added smoothly, flashing another grin.
Joanna and Caleb instantly shot a synchronized side glare at him. Jolie cleared her throat, trying to look anywhere else but at RJ, while the shirtless young man just stood there, his hands still awkwardly covering his pecs as he processed the list of groceries.
Suddenly, frantic noises and low, guttural growls emerged from the dark interior of the farmhouse.
An old woman burst through the front door, moving incredibly fast. Her milky, dead eyes and snapping jaws made it instantly clear she was a zombie. Caleb let out a terrified yelp, scrambling backward so fast he tripped over his own boots and fell completely off the porch, landing hard on the frozen ground.
Joanna’s reflexes kicked in. Her hand blurred as she reached for her weapon, ready to execute a lethal headshot. But before she could strike, the lanky young man moved with impossible, super-fast speed.
He intercepted the creature, grabbing her by the shoulders. With surprising strength, he pushed her back toward the threshold of the house, his shaky voice dropping into a soft, soothing tone. “No, Aunty.”
The zombie aunt hissed and snarled, trying to aggressively push past him to get to Joanna and RJ. The young man didn’t panic. Instead, he reached into the waistband of his jeans, pulled out a wooden kitchen spoon, and sharply slapped the zombie on the back of her hand.
“No eating people, Aunty,” he scolded gently.
The zombie aunt let out a frustrated hiss, pulling her hand back and slouching her shoulders, looking completely wronged-like a petulant toddler getting caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
The young man stuttered over his shoulder, “Be. Back. Soon,” and the screen door slammed behind him as he corralled the zombie back into the dark house.
RJ walked over to help Caleb up, pulling him to his feet and dusting the frozen dirt off his jacket. Joanna slowly turned around, crossing her arms and glaring dead at the seer.
Caleb adjusted his jacket, looking incredibly sheepish as he shrugged. “That… must be the darkness I was sensing.”
Joanna’s brows shot up, her expression a mix of utter disbelief and pure sarcasm. “Really, Caleb? That was the deep, terrifying darkness tied to my destiny? A zombie aunt getting scolded with a wooden spoon?”
Caleb opened his mouth to defend his vision, but the sheer absurdity of the situation left him totally speechless. Behind them, the farmhouse remained quiet, leaving the team standing on the porch, waiting for a shirtless guy to finish putting his undead relative in time-out.
Joanna was just about to turn around and write this whole trip off as a bizarre waste of time when the front door flew open.

The young man came back out, still completely shirtless. In the split second it took for the screen door to slam, he was suddenly standing right in front of them on the edge of the porch. His movement was a literal
r-It was a speed-type ability, and based on how fast he had just covered the distance, his agility stats were terifyingly high.
He didn’t pose aggressively, but his sudden proximity made RJ’s hand twitch toward her weapon.
The man started to speak, his voice slow and shaky, contrasting heavily with his explosive physical movement. “Sorry,” he rasped, struggling to string the words together. “Aunt… not well. Name Leo.”
He spoke slowly, as if the physical act of forming words was incredibly hard for him. Joanna blinked, processing the fact that this lanky, shirtless guy was essentially a high-speed anomaly who used household utensils for zombie crowd control.
The young man turned and glided slowly down the porch steps. He didn’t drop down from step to step; instead, he drifted forward like he was walking on air in slow motion, his feet barely skimming the frosted wood. It looked as though he was trying to mimic normal human walking but was failing miserably.
He didn’t look back to see if they were following, merely tossing a shaky command over his shoulder. “Come… In back.”
With that, he led them around the side of the building toward the backyard of the farmhouse.
Joanna exchanged a sharp, calculating look with RJ and Jolie, nodding to them to keep their guard up. Caleb swallowed hard but fell into line right behind Joanna as they followed the shirtless speedster.
