Bsix in the morning, Julian’s house was a blur of tactical activity as the team packed crates of ammo, medkits, and supplies that Joanna left with them. Parked on the property were three rugged, all-terrain SUVS-heavy-duty beasts ready for rough landscapes. But they still needed more transport for the soldiers.
Joanna and Jake walked down the street, navigating a wasteland of debris until they found a handful of heavy-duty cargo vans and additional SUVS sitting wrecked on the pavement, their frames crushed and windows shattered from previous skirmishes.
“Think you can manage the weight of all of these?” Jake asked, gesturing to the mangled steel.
“Watch me,” Joanna muttered.
Focusing her mind, she wrapped the boundaries of her pocket dimension around the ruined fleet. With sharp tug of her will, the wrecked vehicles vanished into her void. She hit her mental renew button, and instantly, the twisted metal snapped back into place, shattered glass reformed, and the engines roared to life.
Stepping back outside Julian’s property, Joanna waved her hand, tearing open a series of localized rifts. Ond by one, the freshly restored vehicles dropped onto the pavement, lining up perfectly alongside Julian’s three all-terrain SUVs in a flawless, ready-to-roll convoy.
Joanna walked back inside the house right into a tense standoff.
On one side stood Julian, his jaw tight and stance hostile. On the other side was Brandon, looking surprisingly relaxed. Caleb stood directly in the middle, a human barrier keeping the two apart.
Joanna frowned, her eyes darting between them. “What’s the problem?”
Brandon looked at her, his tense expression instantly melting into a bright smile.
Julian didn’t smile. Instead, a sharp crackle filled the air as electricity began to arc and flow across his knuckles. He glared at Brandon, then snapped his eyes to Joanna. “This insect says you want to take him
with us.”
“I am,” Joanna admitted flatly. “I am taking him to his cousin, Fletcher.”
Caleb immediately held a hand up like a peacemaker, sensing the temperature in the room rising. “Brandon only misspoke. He is not with Joanna-he’s only joining the convoy.”
Joanna pinched the bridge of her nose, already sensing that this guy was going to be just as much of a headache as his cousin Fletcher. She shot an annoyed look at Caleb for letting the situation escalate, but decided to pivot before Julian actually fried the kid.
Turning to Julian, she tried a tactical distraction. “Julian, you can drive the Beast today.”
Julian shot her a flat look that clearly said that won’t distract me, but the arcs of electricity finally died down around his knuckles. Realizing there was no use arguing further, Joanna gave up. “Come on, we leave now.”
Outside, Jake was a whirlwind of efficiency. He organized the convoy and systematically loaded the soldiers into the newly restored cargo vans and SUVs.

Joanna and Julian walked back toward the house to grab their final gear. Brandon immediately tried to follow on Joanna’s heels, but Briggs stepped into his path like a brick wall. “You need to get in the car now,”
Riggs rumbled, his voice leaving zero room for debate.
Cut off from Joanna, Brandon turned toward the front of the convoy. He boldly marched up to the Beast, intending to claim the front passenger seat. Before he could touch the door handle, Jake stepped in, completely blocking him and pointing a stern finger toward the very rear of the line.
“Levi!” Jake yelled over the roar of the idling engines. “Take care of Brandon for the trip.”
Levi nodded, flashing a grim, babysitter-of-the-year smile. Left with absolutely no other choice, Brandon muttered under his breath and trudged all the way to the back of the convoy.
Joanna walked through the rooms, systematically pocketing all the high-end furnishings and belongings She thoughtfully separated Julian’s personal things into his own room within her dimension, sending the rest to her main warehouse.
