Chapter 322 Kailee’s Past Comes Back To The Present

Inthe center of the perimeter sat a solid, six-story building of dark red brick. After an hour of careful observation, it became completely obvious that this was the headquarters building. The highest volume of foot traffic moved through its heavily guarded doors, and the most heavily armed sentries patrolled its roof.

Within two hours, the initial tension of the stakeout had dissolved into restless energy. Julian and Briggs sat huddled over a makeshift map drawn on a notepad, cooking up random plans to hurt the Bloodfang faction. It didn’t take long for their contrasting styles to spark a bickering match.

“I’m telling you, it’s a textbook drop,” Briggs muttered, tapping a pencil against the table. “Joanna teleports us directly onto the roof of the red brick HQ. We breach the top stairwell, drop flashbangs, and clear the building floor by floor from the top down. It minimizes the perimeter guards’ ability to flank us.”

Julian snorted, leaning back in his chair while a tiny, lazy spark of blue electricity danced across his knuckles. “Floor by floor? Briggs, this isn’t a SWAT raid. It’s an apocalypse. Why waste time clearing rooms when we can just fry the nervous system of the entire building?”

Briggs glared at him. “And how exactly do you plan to do that without tipping off the thirty guys outside before we even hit the main targets?”

“Joanna drops me on the roof next to their main power junction,” Julian said, a wicked grin spreading across his face. “I overload the grid, send a few thousand volts straight down the wiring, and blow every lightbulb, walkie-talkie, and generator they have. While they’re running around blind and screaming in the dark, we walk right through the front door.”

“That is loud, reckless, and completely unpredictable,” Briggs grumbled, crossing his arms. “What if their underground labs are on an isolated circuit? You’ll just alert the whole block and trap us inside a dark brick oven with zero visibility.”

“It’s called shock and awe, old man,” Julian shot back, leaning forward. “Your plan takes too long. If we crawl through the stairs like a pair of turtles, they’ll have plenty of time to flush the labs, kill the test subjects, or escape through those underground tunnels Glacier mentioned.”

“It’s called tactical discipline,” Briggs corrected, his voice dropping into a stern, military register. “If you blow the grid, we lose our eyes on their movements, too. We need precision, not a fireworks show.”

Joanna rubbed her temples, looking between the two of them as their bickering continued to escalate.

Joanna shook her head and tuned them out, letting the guys continue their endless argument in the background. Kailee stood close to her, but she wasn’t paying any attention to the map. Instead, her eyes were locked onto a faded, white-washed building on the opposite side of the street from the red brick headquarters.

“What is going on, Kailee?” Joanna asked softly, noticing the rigid tension in her posture.

Kailee didn’t look away from the rift view. “I now know what Caleb meant by saying my past is meeting the present.” She lifted a trembling hand, pointing directly at a woman and two men talking near the corner of the white building. “That is Megan Foster… my cousin.”

Joanna’s expression darkened as she stared at the woman through the visual rift. “Megan Foster. David Foster’s ex-wife?”

Kailee nodded, her knuckles turning white as she balled her hands into fists. “Yes. She was Elliot’s old secretary. She abandoned David, stayed on as Elliot’s girlfriend, and clearly followed him right into

edfang.” She took a sharp breath, her eyes flashing with years of buried resentment. “She’s also the consin who made my life a living hell when we were kids. Tormenting me was basically her favorite hobby.”

The bickering between Julian and Briggs instantly died down as they caught the shift in the room’s energy.

“Well,” Julian said, his eyes narrowing as he looked back out at the corner where Megan stood talking to the two guards. “It looks like the target list just got a lot more personal.”

Joanna murmured, her gaze sharp as she tracked the woman’s movements. “If Megan is nearby, then so is

Elliot.”

RJ spoke up, leaning in closer to the rift view. “Maybe we should follow her. She may lead us to Elliot, Boss

Joanna nodded, her decision made instantly. “Hold on, everyone.”

With a silent surge of spatial energy, she executed a single jump. In a seamless blink, she shifted the relative location of her storage space, edging right up to the corner of the building where Megan was standing. Tucked safely inside the spatial rift, they remained completely undetectable, but they were now close enough to hear the crunch of the frozen snow underfoot and the low murmur of the conversation outside.
