Chapter 493 A Book No One Can Read

Greyson grinned. “Fake a look at this.”

Olivia caught the cue and pulled out the chunk of Ruinstar Metal.

The instant it appeared, Ezekiel’s senses, sharp as any Master Smith’s, caught the scent of it. He whipped around, his eyes locking onto the metal in Olivia’s hand, and in a single breath, he was right in front of her. His eyes went wide.

“That’s an unusual material. What is it?”

Greyson snorted. “Aren’t you the self-proclaimed Master Smith: How is it you can’t recognize something like this? Done playing aloof?”

Ezekiel grunted. “Quit your nagging. Get on with it.”

Olivia smiled. “Mr. Rowlatt, this is Ruinstar Metal. It came down from beyond the sky a while back. Military Command put out a quest, and we landed it.”

Ezekiel’s expression eased. “So it’s Olivia. When did you get back? You’re prettier every time I see you.”

She gave him a small smile. “Just a couple of days ago, Mr. Rowlatt.”

He nodded approvingly and turned the Ruinstar Metal over in his hands, studying it. Then something occurred to him. “Hold on. Since when do you have a future son-in-law?”

Greyson gestured at Alan. “Are you blind? The big handsome kid right there.”

Ezekiel frowned, then his face cleared. “You’re Ernie Greenwood’s boy.”

Alan nodded. “Yes, Mr. Rowlatt.”

“Mm. I’ve heard of you. The body’s been tempered well. Worthy of young Olivia.”

Greyson cut in. “Like I needed you to tell me that. Get to it. Forge the weapons. I’ll save you a seat at the wedding.”

Ezekiel’s brow knit again as he studied the metal in his hand.

“It’s good material. It carries its own power. Calling it Ruinstar suits it.”

He paused. “Trouble is, I really don’t have time to forge anything right now. You’ll have to wait. I’m working through an ancient method, and I’m at a critical point. If it were anyone else at the door, I wouldn’t even have come out.”

Steven’s heart sank. Even this wasn’t enough?

Greyson frowned. “I came knocking in person, and you still won’t forge?” He glanced at the book. “What kind of ancient method? Let me see. Maybe I can help.”

Ezekiel tossed the yellowed book at him. “You’re all bluster. Let’s see what you make of it. Go on, all of you,

take a look”

He turned his attention back to the Ruinstar Metal

Greyson opened the old book, and his brow furrowed almost immediately. He didn’t recognize a single character on the page.

Steven and the others crowded around to look. At first glance, none of them could make any sense of it. The script was strange and angular, and only the occasional illustration gave away that this was a book about forging at all.
