Chapter 688 The Sword Fragment’s Chosen One
At a time like this, everyone who made it here had already lost all sense of caution.
This was Draconia’s fourth sacred artifact.
Whoever claimed it could become a Divine Eternal in the future.
If news of this got out, it would shake the entire world.

But right now, no one had any intention of spreading the news. Even if they wanted to, there was no way to send a message from here.
Everyone charged into the mountain with everything they had.
Darby was nearly out of his mind. Even against the terrifying heat, he didn’t hesitate. He surrounded himself with water–based power for protection and raced deeper into the mountain.
About half an hour later, Bianca suddenly spoke.
“Steven, we’re almost there!”
Steven’s eyes flashed.
With a shout, he hurled the Dragon Spear forward.
Boom!
The rock wall ahead exploded, leaving a huge hole.
A sea of flames burst through the opening and rushed straight at them, nearly forcing them back.
Fortunately, the five–colored flames around Bianca pushed the fire away.
Steven stared ahead in surprise.
“There’s a huge space inside!”
“Let’s go!”
Steven wrapped an arm around Bianca and carried her through the opening.
The moment they crossed it, the space before them opened up.

Red firelight filled the cavern, and waves of brutal heat washed over them.
The underground chamber was enormous, easily the size of more than a dozen football fields.
It was an underground lava world!
Below them stretched what looked like a giant lake of lava.
The molten rock churned and bubbled endlessly.
Steven had no doubt that if he fell in, he would be reduced to ash in no time.
Flames also filled the entire cavern, turning the place into a massive furnace.
But Steven and Bianca both looked toward the center of the lava lake at almost the same
moment.
A stone platform stood there, untouched by the molten rock.
At its center, a broken piece of a sword floated in midair, surrounded by endless flames.
Bianca couldn’t actually see it. She could only sense
its
presence.
Steven, however, could see it clearly.
The sword fragment hovered silently above the platform, releasing terrifying waves of fire.
The pressure coming from it felt powerful enough to burn everything in existence to nothing.
It was only a fragment, yet Steven felt a level of pressure unlike anything he had ever experienced.
There was something supremely commanding about it.
It seemed to stand above everything else in the world.
It had been born to rule.
No one knew where such a sword had come from or who had forged it.
Steven could even make out the faint image of a divine firebird circling the fragment.
More surprisingly, he could sense excitement coming from the broken blade.
It was almost as if the sword had finally found the person destined to wield it.

There was no time to think about it.
“Bianca, go!”
Bianca could feel the sword fragment calling to her.
The broken sword inside her body was answering that call as well.
But just as Bianca stepped forward–Boom!
The wall of molten rock across the cavern suddenly exploded.
A wild figure burst through.
Darby!
His face was twisted with obsession.
He couldn’t see the sword fragment, but he knew exactly what was there.
The fragment of the Ember Sacred Sword!
Darby charged toward it like a madman.
Steven snorted coldly and spread his wings.
Bang!
He shot forward in an instant.
No one was going to interfere while Bianca claimed the sword.
Not even Darby!
“Get out of here!” Steven roared.
Scorchblood Ignition erupted once again.
Steven raised the Dragon Spear.
A flash of cold light struck first!
“Godslayer Whisper!”
The fourth beast–type Divine Sigil on Steven’s back seemed to roar along with him.

Moving at five times the speed of sound, Steven appeared in front of Darby in the blink of an
eye.
He thrust his spear.
Darby had completely lost control.
Being stopped from claiming the sword fragment was worse than any torture he could imagine.
His eyes turned blood–red.
“You insect! Get out of my way!”
Boom! The image of a Heavenfire Peacock erupted behind him.
One enormous wing slammed toward Steven.
Boom!
