Chapter 122 The Finger Lost
Hansel’s POV
I stood in the white–tiled hallway of the hospital, holding Jensen’s finger.
It felt cold and strange.
‘Look at her, Kae snarled, staring at Sharon. ‘She’s pathetic, Hansel. Why are we still standing here? We could have been the next Alpha and then officially banished her from the pack.
“Shut up, Kae,” I muttered internally, though my patience was a thin thread ready to snap.
When I tried to explain the cause of the blast, Sharon let out a mocking laugh.
“You think I’m an idiot? A laptop exploding?” She stepped into my space, her eyes wild. “Why not just say Jensen blew himself up instead? It would sound more believable than this fairytale!”
I bit back my frustration, my jaw aching. “It’s true. The laptop belonged to Natalie. Alpha
Jensen insisted no one else touch it… It was rigged, Sharon. It was a trap.”
Her eyes narrowed as her entire body stiffened. “Whose laptop?”
I realized my slip a second too late.
My brain was fried from sixteen hours of damage control. “Nothing. Forget it.”

“Natalie! Again, Natalie!” Sharon began to shriek, her voice reaching a pitch that made the nurses down the hall flinch.
“What is she, some ghost that won’t die? Why leave her laptop in the pack? She’s dead, don’t you understand? Dead! Keeping a dead woman’s things is disgusting! It’s a sickness!”
‘She’s right about one thing, Kae barked. ‘It is a sickness and Jensen is infected with it.‘
I tried to keep my voice flat and calm, “Alpha gave the order… Everything was to remain untouched. I don’t question the Alpha’s sentiment.”
“You’re his Beta now after that excuse of a wolf took off with his stupid mate!” She poked a finger into my chest. “Why didn’t you advise him when he was being irrational? Sometimes I think you’re nothing but Natalie’s spy, left behind to ruin him! Let me tell you… If Jensen’s fine, then good for you. But if anything happens to him, I’ll destroy you!”

For a brief second, I wondered how easy it would be.
One push.
One order.
And she would be gone.
Kae stirred in approval.
I ignored him.

Calling her Luna felt like a lie that would choke me. Every time I look at her, I only see a pretender who lied her way to the position.
‘Call her by her name,’ Kae whispered, a dark, wicked suggestion. ‘See if she pops a vein.
Finally, the doctor came out with a strange expression. Sharon lunged forward before the doors were even fully open, grabbing the lead surgeon by his white coat.
“How’s my mate’s finger?!”
The surgeon, Jensen’s personal doctor who looked like he’d aged a decade in that room, stiffened.
He pried her hands off his coat with professional coldness. “Hmmm…. Miss, I did everything possible.”
Sharon shouted, pressing her annoying fingers into the man’s chest. “I’m your Luna… your Alpha’s mate.”
Her statement shook him but he recovered fast, “the finger was blown off at the scene. The tissue was charred, the bone shattered. No one can fix it back… it’s impossible.”
“You-!
I stepped in, physically pulling Sharon back before she could assault the man again.
السلام
I could feel Kae’s hackles rising; the disrespect she was showing was a stain on the pack.
“Doctor,” I said, my voice low. “What about the rest of him? The recovery?”
The doctor exhaled, looking at me with a mix of pity and confusion.
The Alpha is stable… His life is not in danger. But… there’s something wrong. His vitals are…

sluggish. For an Alpha of his caliber, he should be healing at three times this rate. His body is reacting like a common human’s… I… I don’t understand it.”
My heart skipped a beat; I knew exactly why.
Ever since Natalie died, Jensen hadn’t been the same. His wolf was broken, and their connection was severed.
The pack doctor pulled me aside, his voice a panicked whisper. “Hansel, I’m confused. Why isn’t his regenerative ability kicking in? If the pack finds out the Alpha’s wolf is… gone…”
I grabbed the doctor’s collar, my eyes flashing. “You will keep your mouth shut,” I hissed, the threat of Kae vibrating in my throat. “If a single word about the Alpha’s wolf being weak leaves this room, I won’t wait for a trial. I’ll kill you myself… Do you understand?”
The doctor nodded frantically and scrambled away.
Sharon, who had been fuming in the corner, erupted again. “Useless quacks! Of course the finger can be reattached! Get back in there and try again!”
“Is it her?” Sharon turned to me, her eyes wild and bloodshot. “Is it Natalie’s curse? Is that woman’s ghost still clawing at us from the grave?”
I looked at her, and for the first time, I felt a flicker of genuine pity.
She was losing her mind.
Jensen was avoiding her bed, sleeping at the office, and now he was losing limbs to a woman who wasn’t even in the room.
“Sharon… there’s no such thing as curses. And if there were… why would she target you?”
I let the silence stretch.
“Don’t embarrass yourself.”
“What did you call me?” she shrieked.
I turned but she moved instantly, “I’m your Luna… you bow to me.”

I ignored her, turning to the guards. “Transfer the Alpha to intensive care. Level four guards. No one enters without my clearance.”
When Sharon tried to push past me to follow the gurney, I moved my shoulder, blocking her path with the solidity of a stone wall.
