Chapter 148 Jensen Still Can’t Let Go
Natalie’s POV
I burst into laughter.
I couldn’t help it.

Seeing Baron being called a son–in–law by a mid–level Stone representative was a level of irony I hadn’t expected to encounter so
soon.
Son–in–law.
Same sound, different meaning.
It was a funny, domestic title that pinned a label on the monster standing beside me.
Baror’s entire demeanor shifted instantly.
You will pay for that laughter in the room.’
His voice slid through the link, low and deliberate, cutting my laughter short.
My breath caught.
Heat curled low in my stomach before I could stop it.
I pressed my lips together, trying and failing not to smile.
Beside me, Baron straightened slowly, his hand tightening on mine with a renewed sense of pride.
“Yes, that’s right… I’m your son–in–law,” he declared, his voice booming with a terrifyingly cheerful tone. “Let’s go.”
Behind us, I heard Sean sigh dramatically as he stepped down from the plane.
“Finally,” he muttered under his breath, tugging Susie along like he had somewhere important to be.
I almost laughed again.
Baron must have signaled them, because within seconds, everything shifted into motion.
Yvonne walked with the guards carrying everything we needed.
Chris led us through a series of underground passages and private gates that only the highest–ranking families could access.
Through these hidden arteries of the pack, we slipped smoothly out of the airport without prying eyes.
Through tinted glass, I watched the Nightfang Pack pass by.
Familiar.
And yet…

The streets were cleaner than I remembered.
More guarded.
More controlled.
Patrol units moved at regular intervals.
Eyes everywhere.
Power had grown here.
Jensen had grown it.
For a moment, something twisted in my chest.
It had once been the center of my world.
The place I built for.
Bled for.
Disappeared for.
And now-
Beside me, Baron didn’t speak.
But I could feel him.
His thumb brushed once against the back of my hand.
A silent check.
A silent I’m here.
I didn’t look at him.
But I tightened my grip in response.
Within twenty minutes, the pack’s skyline began to give way to the guarded greenery of the Stone family villa at the edge of the pack.
It was exactly outside the pack right on the mountains where the view of the Nightfang Pack was visible through the windows.
The villa was a fortress of white stone and silver–trimmed glass, where the air was cooler and the security was absolute.
As we stepped out of the car, I felt the familiar hum of ancestral runes that felt like a low–frequency vibration under the skin.
‘You feel it, don’t you?‘ Nyx murmured.
This place was built for you?

I swallowed.
Only a true scribe can design such runes.
For a second, I felt a flicker of bitterness.
If my blood was so powerful, if these runes were meant to recognize me, why had I been allowed to rot in the Summers‘ attic for so long?
‘Because they thought you were dead,‘ a voice whispered in the back of my mind.
Nyx
She had been less talkative recently.
I simply took a breath and walked into the house that was supposedly mine.
Baron was already directing the guards, and he made sure the children were settled in the most secure wing with Yvonne before he finally let me go.
I needed a moment of peace.
I wandered into the sunroom, a beautiful space filled with different runes and designs.
At least I know now that one of them is also a scribe.
I felt I was in a scribe’s paradise.
My phone buzzed on the glass table. I looked down, and my blood turned to ice.
It was a message from an unknown number, but the phrasing was unmistakable.
“I know you’re in the pack, Natalie. I can feel you. You think you can hide, but I’ve always been able to track the scent of my mate. Come to Moonmilk tonight. Let’s talk about the future.”
Jensen.
He didn’t know about the Stones yet.
