Halfway down the corridor, I stopped.

I exhaled slowly.

Not like this.

My hand dragged down my face, fingers still faintly trembling from the run.

Chris turned and left, leaving only me in the room.

‘Or maybe she wants to keep a part of herself for the Stone family, Raze countered, his tone dripping with a dark, territorial jealousy. ‘She changed her name to Stone today. She took their ink. Now she hides her wolf? Is she pulling away from the North? Is she pulling away from us?‘

“Shut up!” I roared, swinging into a savage side–kick that made the heavy bag groan and swing violently.

The steel chains screeched against the ceiling, echoing through the stagnant air of the basement gym.

The thought that she might be hiding her wolf because she didn’t want to be fully mine was a toxin in my

blood.

I was torn between the urge to protect her and the crushing sadness of feeling like a stranger to the woman I worshipped.

I had given her everything… my name, my power, my protection and yet, there was a silver light in her soul that she hadn’t shared with me.

My phone buzzed on the bench nearby.

I snatched it up, my fingers leaving damp prints on the glass.

It was a priority alert from my shadows at the airport.

“Alpha Baron, we spotted assassins at the airport. They were watching the exits, slipping in under the cover of the crowd. At first we thought they were after you, so we ran full scans but found no traces aimed your way. Their target is the Luna.”

A fresh wave of killing intent crashed through me.

“In the gym.”

I could feel him.
