The heavy glass doors of the Moonmilk Cafe swung shut behind me, completely silencing the frantic roar inside.
Through the tinted windows, I could see Jensen.
He looked small, trapped in a cage of questions.
I stood by the car, watching the chaos.
Earlier, I had pretended to be a stranger just to see how he would behave.
I had wanted to see if there was a shred of genuine remorse or if his love was merely possessiveness.
His actions had only left me with a deep, bone–weary disgust.
Chris approached me, his footsteps silent on the pavement.
“Miss,” Chris spoke up, bowing his head slightly. “We’ve already restrained the barista. She’s being held in the service van.”
I looked back at the cafe, my mind flashing to the cups of cappuccino that were still sitting on that mahogany table.
“Find out what she put in the coffee,” I said, my voice cold.
I wasn’t a fool.
The moment the cup was placed in front of me, my wolf had snarled.
It was because of her that I had not had the coffee.
I had to admit – Chris was useful.
One subtle look from me during the meeting and he had understood exactly what needed to be done.
Hearing my question, Chris quickly reported.
“We pressed her; she didn’t hold out long. She admitted that Dr. Johnson ordered her to drug

coffee and Jensen’s make you lose control and ‘hook up‘ in the lounge upstairs. According to her, Sharon was supposed to storm in with the reporters I called to catch you in the act. She planned to nail you down as a home–wrecking mistress in front of the whole world.”
My lips curved into a mocking smile.
Chris’s voice remained even, but there was a quiet edge beneath it.
“The dosage was calculated,” he continued. “Strong enough to override resistance. Subtle enough that it wouldn’t be detected until it was too late.”
A pause.
“By the time it took effect, Miss… you wouldn’t have been thinking clearly.”
Another pause.
“And neither would he.”
“Sounds exactly like something Sharon would do,” I murmured.
Sharon.
Even her name felt like something sour on my tongue.
Five years.
Two attempts on my life.
And still… she reached for more.
I had only just returned to the pack and hadn’t had the time to deal with that woman yet; yet Sharon couldn’t resist striking first.
She was desperate.
She knew that if I lived, her fairy tale died.
Chris paused, his expression shifting into something darker.
“Miss, our people also found out something else. When you and Mr. Baron landed yesterday, there were assassins lurking near the airport perimeter. They were clearly targeting you, Baron’s men neutralized them before they could move.”

My brows drew together, judging from Jensen’s pathetic attitude today, this couldn’t have been his doing.
He still thought he could save me.
That left only one person who most wanted to keep me from ever stepping foot/in Nightfang Pack.
Sharon.
There was something almost admirable about her persistence.
If you ignored the insanity.
“Chris,” I said, my voice dropping to a whisper.
“Send someone to grab Sharon from the hospital. Force the barista’s drugged coffee down her throat, every last drop. Then, throw her in a room with some random man… anyone off the street who’s looking for a payday.”
I looked toward the cafe, where the Accord were still clamoring for Jensen’s blood.
