Baron’s POV

The air in the private wing of the medical center was heavy, thick with the scent of alcohol and herbs.
As the Witch Doctor, my presence here was absolute; this was my domain, but today, the comfort of my own hospital couldn’t calm the fire burning in my veins.
I stood in my private study, the floor–to–ceiling glass overlooking the hidden gardens of the medical complex.
I paused the video on my phone at the exact moment Natalie leaned forward and said, “…otherwise my mate might get the wrong idea.”
I set that specific clip to loop.
Her voice filled the room over and over.
My mate.
The phrase hit me like a surge, possessive heat blooming in my chest.
I watched the way her lips curved and the corner of my mouth curved upward in a mirroring smirk.
My Luna, I thought, was nothing short of dazzling.
She had walked into a den of vipers and still made them fall to her feet.
I’d have to have a pointed conversation with Waylon later.
The Stone family’s bodyguards were obedient enough, and they certainly looked the part in their tailored suits, but their reflexes left much to be desired.
My eyes narrowed as I rewatched the background of the footage.
If I hadn’t anticipated the Accord’s lack of boundaries and slipped my own elite operatives into their ranks, the rhythm Natalie had so carefully set would have been shattered.
Those vultures would have rushed in, cameras flashing and microphones shoved into her face, before the trap was fully sprung.

Watching him admit, in front of every Alpha in the territory, that he had systematically exploited her for five years without a single cent of compensation… It was a masterpiece of ruin.
The encrypted line on my phone buzzed.
I tore my eyes away from Natalie’s smile and answered.
“Report.” I said, my voice dropping into a low register.
“The target is on–site, Alpha Baron,” Chris’s voice came through. “Sharon Summers just pulled up behind the Moonmilk Cafe. She’s calling her contacts now.”
“Don’t let her finish that call.” I commanded.
Through the live data feed, I watched the scene unfold.
Sharon stepped out of her car, her movements frantic and jagged.
She raised the phone to her ear, her lips moving with speed.
She was about to look up at the café when a shadow flickered behind her – one of my specialists.
A single, precise strike to the base of her neck.
Sharon’s body went rigid before the light left her eyes.
She collapsed like a marionette with its strings cut.
My man caught her and hurried her limp, unconscious body into the café’s back kitchen.
I had cameras implanted everywhere in the cafe and in the whole Nightfang Pack.
My men simply held Sharon’s jaw open.
The drugged coffee was poured down her own throat.
Every last drop of the aphrodisiac–sedative cocktail disappeared into her system.
“Take her upstairs,” I commanded. “But wait for the guest of honor.”

“A gift for Sharon,” he announced. “To ensure the performance is authentic for the cameras.”
“And Jensen?” I asked.
“Jensen’s trying to leave, Sir. But we’ve already blocked the exits… Today, the Alpha has to stay and watch his wife exactly as she is.”
“Good,” I whispered. “Just make sure my mate stays safe. If a single wolf gets near her car, ll have their heads.”
I ended the call and set the phone on my desk.
I had been busy with things here – managing the patients – but this was the most satisfying work of the day.
“Layne!” My voice cut through the quiet of the office.
The door opened almost instantly.
Layne, the local manager of the hospital, entered with a smile on his face.
He was a man of high competence, a doctor who had worked closely with me for decades, but standing before me, he looked like a man who had won a lottery.
“Alpha Baron,” Layne said, standing respectfully with his hands clasped before him.
He had found his mate about a month ago and had been glowing ever since.
I picked up the quarterly report and tossed it across the heavy mahogany desk.
“You’ll keep running things here,” I stated, my gaze leveling with his. “I’ve reviewed your projections and your loyalty has never been in question. I trust your ability completely. Which is fortunate, because I’m leaving.”
Layne’s brow furrowed, his expression shifting instantly.
“Alpha Baron, with all due respect, you’ve only just arrived. Since you’ve come all this way, at least take a proper look at your own patients here. The patients are getting more impatient by the day; I haven’t had a single day of rest in weeks, I-
I cut him off with a dismissive wave of my hand, already reaching for my coat.

“Not like me.” I continued, a trace of a smirk playing on my lips. “I have a pack to run… I also have to get home to cook dinner for my wife and kids…”
“What?”
Layne froze, his jaw actually dropping an inch.
I didn’t care what he thought; all I wanted was to get back to the villa.
Natalie had been breathtaking in that mask earlier… stunning, almost sinfully alluring.
