Hansel’s POV

I stood in the corridor, just outside the observation room, watching through the one-way glass as Sharon sat in that cold metal

chair.

She looked like a cornered animal, clutching Mr. Jensen’s Jacket around her shoulders, her eyes darting toward the door every time a heavy footstep echoed in the hall.

I had just finished reading the preliminary brief from the investigators.

My hands were actually shaking.

I could barely believe the depths of her cruelty.

I had spent years working for Jensen; I had seen the dark things people do.

But this? This was a different kind of darkness.

Slowly feeding pesticide to the woman who raised her?

Was this woman even human?

I looked at the way she pouted at the officers, trying to play the fragile invalid card even now, and I felt a wave of visceral nausea.

I couldn’t stay in that room a second longer.

I stepped outside at once, the humid evening air of the South hitting me like a physical weight.

I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed Jensen’s private line.

Over at the pack office, I knew the atmosphere was even worse than it was here.

The Pack Elders would be screaming about the incident.

The Moonmilk Café Scandal had gone viral in less than an hour, and the sight of the Alpha’s mate with a beggar was a hole in the pack’s reputation.

The line clicked open on the second ring.

His voice was hoarse like a man who was fighting a losing battle.

“Speak,” he said curtly.

I could hear the muffled sound of shouting in the background before a heavy door slammed, silencing the noise.

“Alpha Jensen, it’s bad,” i began, lowering my voice as I paced the perimeter of the station parking lot.

“Ms. Sharon’s case is more serious than we thought… It isn’t just a misunderstanding at the mall. It involves the Summers family itself. Directly.”

Theard his breath hitch over the line.

“What did you say? What does the Summers family have to do with a boutique scuffle?”

I closed my eyes, the words feeling like ash in my mouth.

“Quincy Summers has been hospitalized. The tox-screen came back positive for slow-acting pesticide poisoning. Lucy, the housekeeper, has confessed. She said she was acting on Sharon’s direct orders. She’s been feeding it to her for twenty days.”

There was a long, terrifying silence on the other end.

“Sharon… poisoned her own mother?” Jensen’s voice was a ragged whisper.

“Yes,Alpha. The evidence is solid. Lucy gave them the burner phone details. Right now, Ms. Sharon is stalling, claiming she won’t speak until her lawyer arrives. She’s leaning on your name, Alpha. What should we do?”

I heard a muffled thud – likely his fist hitting the mahogany desk.

“What the hell is Sharon trying to do?” Jensen roared, his voice cracking with a mixture of disbelief and fury. “She’s sick, her lungs are failing, and even like this, she can stir up such chaos! If she weren’t sick, would she try to bring down the sky itself?”

I stayed silent, allowing him to vent.

I wondered if he was finally asking himself the same question I was.

Could someone who poisoned her own blood really have sacrificed a rib to save him years ago?

But then, I remembered the medical reports.

I had been the one to file them.

They had been crystal clear – the scarring, the tissue damage, the compatibility.

The suspicion flickered in the back of my mind, then died. Liké

“Alpha Jensen,” I prompted softly. “The clock is ticking. The Enforcers are preparing a formal warrant for her arrest. What do we do now?”

I heard Jensen exhale and when he spoke again, his voice was no longer furious.

“Find a woman with Sharon’s build,” Jensen spoke heavily, the words coming out with this coolness. “A terminal patient, someone with no family, or someone who needs a massive payout for their kin. Have her take the fall. Say she was a disgruntled fo..ner employee of the Summers house who hated Quincy. No matter the cost, buy her silence,”

My heart hammered against my ribs. “Alpha, that’s-”

“As for Lucy,” Jensen cut me off, his voice dropping an octave, “dig up some story about her past grudges with Sharon. Make it look like she was the mastermind trying to extort the family. Then…. make sure she disappears quietly

He paused.
