Chapter 203 The Echo Of A Broken Soul
Baron’s POV
The hospital room was quiet, except Razerambling about wanting Natalie close
My phone vibrated.
It was a secure line from the North.

“Alpha Baron, word from our shadows in the South: Hansel has begun a deep dive into Sharon’s medical history. It looks likes Jensen finally suspects her moon sickness was a fabrication.”
I let out a cold, mocking laugh that vibrated painfully against my healing ribs.
The irony was a bitter pill I wanted Jensen to swallow until he choked.
“Well, well… the man’s finally decided to use that brain of his,” I murmured.
“But it’s about time he learned the truth anyway. He’s been playing house with a viper while the woman who actually saved him was left to rot. Leak the news… carefully. Make sure it looks like a loose end from the Summers‘ internal staff. Let him know that Dr. Johnson isn’t at all dead; the man is very much alive. Send Jensen Johnson’s current safe–house address while you’re at it. I want to see how the great Alpha of the Nightfang reacts when he finds out his so–called ‘dying savior‘ is nothing but a cheap, healthy liar.”
I hung up, the screen of my phone reflecting the icy gold of my eyes.
Jensen didn’t deserve a clean break.
He deserved to feel the foundation of his honor crumble beneath his feet.
Just then, the door pushed open.
Natalie walked in, the scent of fresh water and vanilla following her.
She looked at me, her brow slightly arched in that way that always made my heart do a slow, treacherous roll.
“Who’s a liar?” she asked casually, drying her hands on a small towel.
The moment I saw her, the coldness in my aura vanished.
I got up and pulled her into my arms.
I buried my face in the crook of her neck, breathing her in.
She was the only thing that kept the beast in me from tearing the pack apart.
“Don’t ever leave me alone with the bodyguards again,” I whispered into her skin.
Γ
Natalie chuckled, though she didn’t pull away. “Aren’t they your men, Baron? It’s not dangerous in this wing, and only went to wash my hands. You’re getting more dramatic by the day.”
I pulled back just enough to look at her, pouting with a deliberate, childish exaggeration.

“My nen? They aren’t mine in the way that matters. You’re the only one who’s mine!” “Fine, fine. Whatever you say, Mr Dramatic”
She smiled, but I caught the flicker in her eyes in the way she subtly shifted the topic.
I knew she understood the weight behind my words.
I didn’t just want her presence; I wanted her soul woven into mine.
But she wasn’t ready… not yet
I didn’t press her.
Instead, I took her hand and pulled her down to sit beside me on the edge of the bed.

“News just came in from the South,” I said, my tone shifting back to seriousness. “It looks like Jensen finally figured out Sharon faked her moon sickness. I’ve already ensured Johnson’s location reached his desk. I wonder what he’ll do when the truth finally hits.”
1
Natalie froze for a split second.
She hadn’t even had time to act on her own vengeance yet; I could see the flicker of surprise that Jensen had caught on so soon.
For five years, she had lived with the weight of Sharon’s lies.
If Sharon hadn’t faked that moon sickness, she never would’ve been able to lure Natalie into that warehouse five years ago.
Now, Natalie wanted to see it for herself. She wanted to see how the “savior” would fall.
“Sharon’s lies to Jensen go far beyond this,” Natalie said, her voice dropping into a hollow register.
“She had my soul muted back then. She wanted to destroy my ability to transcribe, to take everything that made me me. And Jensen… just to stop me from pressing charges, he locked me up.”
She stared into space but I knew the memory of the pain was still there.
T “In his eyes, as long as Sharon was his savior he’d never touch her,” she continued, a bitter, jagged smile curling her lips.
“He always claimed it was about gratitude. But I saw through that the moment they muted my soul in that room. If there were truly no feelings between them, how could he be so blind to right and wrong? That so–called gratitude was nothing more than an excuse he gave himself.”
My chest ached as I listened.
“Which is why,” Natalie added, her eyes turning cold, “even if Jensen learns the sickness was fake, at most he’ll blow up in anger He’ll yell, but in the end… he won’t truly harm her. He’s too tethered to the lie of his own nobility.”
Right then, another call came in on my private line.
It was Finn.
I put it on speaker.

“Alpha Baron,” Finn’s voice was urgent. “There’s more to the incident from five years ago. The day fiatalie’s sout was muted ”
“What did you say?” My expression hardened instantly.
Beside me, Natalie stiffened.
Back then, when Sharon had sent her people to mute her soul, we had always assumed it was a straightforward act of petty revenge.
