Chapter 202 The Pedestal
Hansel’s POV
I stood by the floor–to–ceiling windows, but my focus was entirely on the man sitting at the mahogany desk.
Jensen sat motionless, his gaze fixed on the live feed from the High Accord’s emergency assembly.
On the screen, the Elders of the Southern packs were gathered in a semi–circle of stone, their faces grim. The digital tally climbed steadily. A vote of no confidence. Jensen’s removal was already in motion.
The blue bar, representing those in favor of his removal, was creeping toward the threshold of a majority.
His brow was furrowed tight, the skin around his eyes bruised with fatigue.
And there, stark against the pale light of the desk lamp, was the faint shadow of a slap mark on his cheek.
It wasn’t hard to guess whose hand had left it.
After the scene at the hospital entrance, Jensen had returned to the office like a ghost, his aura flickering and unstable.
Not that I pitied him.
I had been by Jensen’s side for five years.
I had seen the early days of his struggle, the nights he spent fighting/off internal

I had also seen the turning point when Natalie started quietly fixing his messes, stabilizing his path. Because of her, Jensen had secured his place as Alpha; for five years, he had been untouchable.
After everything he had done to Natalie, even 1, as his loyal Beta, could hardly stomach the irony.
It wasn’t my place to speak, but watching him rub his temples wearily, I knew I had to pull him back to reality.
“Alpha Jensen,” I said, my voice cutting through the silence of the office. “I’ve received word on the Summers family. It looks like Jordan went to the pack borders.”
Jensen didn’t look up immediately.
He seemed to process the information, his eyes still glued to the Accord’s voting tally.
“The borders?” he repeated, his voice raspy.
He finally looked up, a spark of confusion breaking through the exhaustion. “Why are you telling me that? Is Jordan going on a retreat while his wife is in the hospital? Unless… unless he dragged Sharon there too?”
“No,” I replied firmly. “Sharon is still under the guard of the villa. Jordan went alone, and he went with an urgency that suggests a private investigation.”
Jensen froze, his fingers pausing their restless tapping on the desk.

If we were going to survive this vote and keep the Nightfang from being dismantled, we needed to stop fighting and start looking at the monsters in the room.
“Alpha Jensen, think about the recent events. Skaron poisoned her own mother.. She methodically drained the life from the woman who raised her. Do you really believe, in your heart, that she is the Summers‘ biological daughter? Does that blood run in her?”
Jensen’s jaw tightened.
“That shouldn’t be in doubt, Hansel, Jordan and Quincy are prideful people; they handled the DNA test themselves with the utmost secrecy. If Sharon weren’t really their daughter, would they have destroyed their relationship with Natalie for her sake? Would they have made things so hard on the girl they raised for eighteen years?”
As he spoke, I saw the flicker of pain in his eyes.
“We can’t get the official Summers records ourselves,” I said, stepping closer to the desk. “But did check the personnel. The doctor who handled Sharon’s DNA test with Jordan – a Dr. Miller – immigrated to another pack the very next day after Sharon was officially recognized. He disappeared into a pack in another continent. Isn’t that a little too convenient?”
