Chapter 217 The Architect Of Shadows
Sharon’s POV
The luxury of the intensive care ward was suffocating, but it was the kind of suffocation I could five with.
I was surrounded by the elite sentinels of the Nightfang Pack.
My lack of wolf didn’t bother me as much today.
If she had been here, I wouldn’t be here right now.
I didn’t need my wolf’s instincts when I had Loretta standing at the foot of my bed.
I leaned back into the silk pillows, watching Loretta’s face.
She was the matriarch of the most powerful lineage in the North, a woman who valued blood and debt above all else.
It was time to give her a reason to loathe Natalie Stone even more than she already did.
“Mom,” I started, my voice barely a whisper, pitched to sound fragile and exhausted. “I know saying this will make people think just a jealous mate… I know Jensen will be angry if he hears me. But I truly mean well for him… I love him so much; otherwise, wouldn’t have done what I did. I wouldn’t have donated a rib five years ago just to keep his heart beating.”
Loretta’s eyes widened, as she stepped closer to the bed, her gaze searching mine.
“What did you say?” she breathed, her voice low and dangerous.
“You saved Jensen five years ago? Not Natalie? I heard it was that Keeper girl – Natalie – who found the Witch Doctor and saved hi when the pack had given up hope.”
I quickly nodded, my eyes brimming with tears on command.
I let out a shaky, jagged breath.
exacerbat
“Yes, it’s true… five years ago she was indeed the one who traveled to find Witch Doctor. I won’t take that away food her. But the Witch Doctor said Jensen’s rib was shattered beyond repair; he needed a biological match, a piece of a shifter was lost. Maybe Natalie hesitated but Jensen couldn’t wait.”
“So, you donated?” She interrupted.
1 nodded in response
“He was fading So, without my family’s consent, I went under the knife i donated arb to save him. Now that cm prgnam worry whether my body can handle the strain of carrying his heir with such a hostory of surgery
I watched the realization hit Loretta like a physical blow
Her expression darkened instantly
“Well, well,” Loretta hissed, her face twisting with a cold fury “And Natalie never breathed a word about this all these years. She let us believe she was the sole savior of my son i thought she was the one who preserved the family line but it turns out she was just the messenger while you were the sacrifice

Her face grew harsher by the second, her hands clenching at her sides. “Sire didn’t save Jensen’s life, yet she enjoyed five years of our family’s protection, lived in our residences, and used our resources to build her Keeper brand… and now she still has the nerve to demand design fees?”
She staggered back as though I had slapped her.
“How shameless can a woman be? Sharon, don’t you worry… as long as I’m here, as long as there is breath in my body, no one will bully the woman who gave a part of herself for my son.
I lowered my eyes, a sob catching in my throat. “Thank you, Mom. I just… I want the baby to be safe.”
With that, Loretta turned to her attendants, ordering them to double the guard and ensure the intensive care ward was a fortrent
She was now fully convinced that Natalie was a parasite and I was the martyr.
But I wasn’t done.
Thinking of the deranged woman who had tried to kill me in the hallway, I knew I had to link her to the enemy.
“Mom,” I added, clutching the sheets, “that crazy woman who tried to kill me… I recognized her. She seemed connected to one of Natalie’s social circles, one of those friends. You know how Jensen still has feelings for Natalie, so I don’t want to say too much to him. I don’t want to start a fight. But I’m carrying his child… what if it happens again? What if I can’t protect this baby from Natalie’s anger?”
“Don’t you worry about that lunatic,” Loretta snapped, her eyes flashing with silver light. “I’ll handle that madwoman myself. She will never see the light of day again, let alone get near you.”
After a few more words of reassurance, Loretta turned and left the ward, her heels clicking.
The moment the heavy doors closed, I dropped the mask.
A mocking smile tugged at the corners of my lips.
That madwoman?
She was Dr. Johnson’s mate.
I had recognized her immediately.
I never would have guessed she’d be stupid enough to barge into a hospital to try and kill me her her mate disappeared
As for Johnson himself, I didn’t know where he was, and I didn’t care
I only knew his private line no longer went through
Whether he had fled the pack or been dealt with by Natalie’s men, it didn’t matter
In fact, it was better this way
If Johnson was gone, the only person who could testify about the fake moon sickness scheine we had, ooked up together was
silenced.
And if Loretta dealt with his wife to protect me, then the last loose thread was burned
