Sharon’s POV
My cheek burned with a fire that seemed to scorch straight through my jawbone.

My head was still ringing from the impact, snapped to the side so violently I could taste the metallic tang of blood where my teeth had grazed my inner lip.
felt like I was losing my mind.
This wasn’t the Natalie I had spent years hating.
This wasn’t the girl who I had locked in the warehouse to burn.
Where is everyone?” I shrieked, my voice cracking into a high–pitched, desperate wail. “Where are the bodyguards? Jensen The pack warriors? Are they all dead?”
clutched the silk sheets, my knuckles white, clinging to the fading hope that someone outside that heavy mahogany door heartme.
expected a crash, a roar, the sound of Loretta’s voice demanding an explanation.
But there was only silence.
Natalie let out a cold, sharp laugh.
She looked at me as if I were a particularly slow–witted pup, and for the first time, I felt the sheer weight of her new reality.
‘Sharon, sometimes I truly think you are unbearably stupid,” Natalie said, her voice annoyingly calm. “And yet, it is a staggering rony that a woman as shallow as you nearly managed to get me killed and stole the man I once thought was my everything t speaks more of my past blindness than your brilliance.”
Before I could even process the insult, Natalie’s hand blurred again.
SLAP.
The second blow was harder than the first.
My head whipped in the other direction.
“Shut up already!” Natalie barked.
Her emerald eyes were glowing now, a telltale sign of her wolf.
She has a wolf?
Since when?
She had been wolfless all her life.
“Sharon, use whatever is left of your brain If I could walk into this wing, clear the floor of other patients, and lock this door without a single alarm being raised, then you would realize Jensen’s men outside have already been dealt with Don t you see the

situation? If I wanted to kill you right now and claim it was an unfortunate medical accident, it would be effortless.”
“No! Impossible!” I fought back wildly, my hands clawing at her silk–clad arms, my nails searching for skin.
“Jensen wouldn’t allow it! Loretta wouldn’t allow it!”
Natalie simply raised her hand again.
And again.
She struck me several more times, until my ears were roaring and her own palm must have gone mamb
I slumped against the pillows, my breath coming in ragged, sobbing gasps.
My face was swollen, the skin tight and throbbing.
She was taking advantage of the fact that I was wolfless.
My vision was clouded with tears of humiliation.
I glared at her, my eyes burning with hatred.
Fear was exactly what Natalie wanted.
“You’ll answer what I ask,” Natalie said, leaning in so close I could smell the lavender on her clothes.

“If I’m satisfied with the truth, I might let you live to see another sunrise. If not… I’ll make sure you lose that child before the doctors can even reach the door. Tell me, Sharon, without this baby, would Loretta still like you? Or would you be tossed out of the pack like the poisoner you are?”
She paused, her gaze dropping to my midsection.
‘Sharon, I have no intention of getting back with Jensen but if you push me, if you lie to me again, I won’t hesitate to take him from you. I won’t do it out of love; I’ll do it out of spite. After all, despite your marriage and despite your pregnancy, his heartes still tied to me. I could snap my fingers and have him kneeling at my feet within the hour. Do you want to test that bond?”
Natalie’s words struck me like a silver dagger to the heart.
No!
Everything I had suffered was all to secure Jensen.
I could never allow them to have anything to do with each other again.
If Natalie beckoned, Jensen would go
I knew it.
“What… what do you want to ask?” I whispered
I felt like a cornered, helpless animal.
I didn’t even dare to sit upright anymore.

shrank back against the headboard, feeling the dire weight of my situation
I knew better than anyone that the only reason Jensen had allowed me to keep this child was Loretta’s pressure.
And Loretta’s protection had nothing to do with me.
She didn’t like me.
Everything was for the sake of the blood.
That meant the baby was my shield.
And the shield was currently being threatened.
Natalie finally loosened her grip on my shoulder.
She stood up straight, smoothing her suit as if she hadn’t just been hitting me.

“The amusement park collapse,” she asked coolly, her voice turning clinical. “The structural failure at the center. You know about don’t you? You know exactly who sabotaged those beams.”
“What are you talking about?” I stammered, my voice trembling. “I’ve been in this bed! I’m high–risk! I don’t know anything about an amusement park!”
My eyes flickered toward the shattered phone on the floor, just for a split second.
Natalie caught it instantly. Her eyes narrowed.
