Chapter 228 Not So Innocent After All

Natalie’s POV

I stood over Sharon, the syringe in my hand catching the cold light.

I watched her shrink into her pillows.

Terrified, Sharon clutched her stomach, her hands trembling as they shielded the only leverage she had left.

Natalie, what are you trying to do?she shrieked, her voice cracking into a desperate rasp. I swear’t don’t know anything about the amusement park collapse! I’ve been in this hospital! Everyone can testify to that!

I didn’t move.

My wolf paced behind my eyes, her growl a constant vibration in

my skull.

Then let me put it another way,I said, my voice dropping to a low register.

I stepped closer, the heels of my boots clicking against the floor like a ticking clock.

Where’s Terry? The man who was in constant contact with you before the incident. Don’t even try to claim you don’t know him, Sharon. If I came here today to question you, it means the Stone family has already traced the threads. I know everything about your connections. I know about the pack members, and I know about the burner phones.

I leaned down until I was inches from her swollen face, the scent of her fear filling my nostrils.

Terry was the lead inspector for the amusement park equipment/He was the one who signed off on the structural integrity of the very beams that gave way. After the collapse, he vanished but the last phone call he made before he went off the gridwas to you. So, tell me, where is he now? Where are my children?

My words left Sharon stunned.

She stared at me, her mouth hanging open, her eyes wide and glassy.

For a moment, the silence in the room was absolute.

What Terry?she whispered, her confusion seeming to bubble up from somewhere genuine. What disappearance What does any of this have to do with me?

Sharon was utterly confused.

I watched her, looking for the telltale flicker of a lie.

But all I saw was a woman drowning in a sea of her own bewilderment.

Natalie, I see it now.. you just came here today to pin false charges on me!she suddenly screamed

You just want a reason to get rid of my baby because you’re jealous! I don’t know any Terry! I dont know what you re talking about! What does an amusement park collapse have to do with me? Why would I care about a ferns wheel or a support beam?

Sharon’s scream tore out of her, raw and desperate.

Her eyes, bloudshot and wide, held no trace of the calculated deceit I had come to expect from her.

I frowned slightly, my grip on the syringe loosening just a fraction.

What was going on?

If Sharon really didn’t know Terry if she really was as clueless as she appeared ther. why did all the evidence the Stone pack gathered point straight to her?

The pack records, the call logs, the missing inspectorevery trail we had blazed in the last two hours led back to the Summerseldest daughter.

Could someone have set Sharon up as a scapegoat?

The thought made my blood run cold.

f Sharon wasn’t the architect, then who was?

Who was powerful enough to mimic her movements, use her family’s resources, and frame her so perfectly?

And more importantlywhat was their purpose?

Why the amusement park?

Why the children?

And where were the children?

Before coming here, I had been absolutely convinced Sharon was behind everything.

It made senseshe was desperate, she was vengeful, and she had a history of trying to erase me.

I had stormed in here determined to pry the truth out of her throat, even if I had to use the syringe to do it.

But now, looking at the heap of trembling silk and bruised skin on the bed, it didn’t look that way at all.

Sharon seemed just as clueless as everyone.

Either Sharon was masking her guilt perfectly or she truly knew nothing.

And if she knew nothing, then I was wasting precious seconds while Sean and Susie were in the hands of a stranger.

My brow furrowed tighter, my heart growing more anxious by the second.

I could almost feel the phantom weight of my children’s hands in mine.

Were they terrified?

Were they in a dark room somewhere, calling for a mother who was busy settling a fiveyear old grudge?

The guilt hit me like a physical blow, a wave of nausea that threatened to break my composure.

Seeing me fall silent, Sharon panicked.
