Chapter 232 Susie Caught Turning It Off
Chapter 232 Susie Caught Turning It Off
Baron’s POV
They were as carefree as could be, curled up in the dirt behind a crumbling concrete wall.
In the moonlight, they looked like two pups who had simply tired themselves out playing in the den.
I glanced at Natalie.
I expected her to be as irritated as I was, but her face was full of nothing but a soft, aching tenderness.
I instantly deflated.
Fine.
If my mate doesn’t mind their lack of concern for my blood pressure, then neither do I.
“I’ll carry them to the car,” I murmured, my voice losing its lethal edge.
I bent down at once, my large hands sliding carefully beneath Susie.

The girl knew how to enjoy herself even in a kidnapping… she had been using Sean’s chest like a plush pillow, her small mouth slightly open.
She was warm.
Natalie, seeing me lift our daughter, bent down to gather Sean.
As her fingers brushed the boy, I noticed the way she moved – a/grace that went beyond human reflexes.
For a split second, Raze stirred, sniffing the air.
There was a faint, hidden power radiating from Natalie.
It was clearly her wolf… but I wouldn’t ask until she was ready to tell me herself.
The children seemed to recognize our scents even in their sleep.
They nestled into our necks, finding the familiar, comfortable spots they always occupied, and drifted right back into the abyss of exhaustion.
Natalie looked at her son’s peaceful face, her heart visibly swelling with warmth.
She looked at me, a small, tired smile gracing her lips.
After returning to the villa, I still wasn’t at ease.
I personally checked their vitals, running my hands over their small limbs to ensure no hidden bruises or internal injuries had been
missed.
1 confirmed they were only asleep from pure exhaustion.

Finally, the iron band around my heart snapped.
I could breathe..
By then, Yvonne had woken up in the infirmary.

When she learned she’d been drugged right inside our own home and the children had been taken, the guilt consumed her.
She stood in the hallway, her face pale and her eyes red–rimmed.
“Baron, Natalie… you should scold me,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I was supposed to be their shield. Thank the goddess the kids are safe; if anything had happened to them because I was careless, how could I have ever faced you? How could I have ever faced the pack?”
Natalie couldn’t bear to see her in such a state.
She stepped forward, placing a hand on Yvonne’s shoulder.
“When people with bad intentions make their move, Yvonne, they look for the one second you blink. You can’t stay awake twenty- four hours a day to guard against every shadow, can you? Don’t blame yourself. The children are safe, and they fought back. That’s all that matters now.”
Since Natalie hadn’t laid blame, I chose not to press further either.
Yvonne was loyal to the core; her own shame was punishment enough.
“I’ll go to the kitchen,” I said, rolling up my sleeves. “I’ll make something good for them… something to help ease the shock when they wake up.”
But Natalie stopped me, her hand catching my arm.
“Let the staff handle the cooking, Baron. You’ve been running on fury for hours. You need to rest too. Instead, let’s share information.”
She wanted the truth behind the kidnapping, and she wanted now.
I sat down on the leather sofa, the weight of the day finally catching up to my muscles.
I poured her a glass of water and pulled out my phone, playing back the recording I had saved.
Natalie’s brows furrowed deeply as she listened to the scratchy audio.
“So the amusement park incident wasn’t a pre–planned assassination?” she asked. “Was it something this Terry came up with on the spot just to delay them?”
“Exactly,” I said, my jaw tightening at the name.
“Otherwise, there’s no way a professional would have overlooked such a massive flaw in equipment he had inspected just two days prior. He saw an opportunity and he took a gamble with a hundred lives to create a distraction. I’ve already sent my best hunters to the docks and the slums to capture him. Once I get my hands on him and get the answers about who ‘the boss‘ is, I’ll hand him and the others over to the pack enforcers.”
Natalie agreed wholeheartedly.

Feeling responsible for the lapse in security, Yvonne volunteered to join the hunt for Terry.
I didn’t stop her.
“Go. Find him before he hits the water.”
The children woke up half an hour later.
They came running from their rooms, their hair messy and their eyes bright with the realization that they were home.
“Daddy! Mommy!”
Susie and Sean barreled toward us in the living room.

Natalie and I each scooped one into our arms, the impact of their small bodies the best feeling I had experienced all year.
“Were you scared? Did they hurt you?” Natalie asked quickly, her hands moving over Susie’s face, studying her for any sign of trauma.
Susie puffed up her chest, her little chin tilting up with pride.
“Mommy, don’t worry! I had Daddy’s tracker hairpin. I knew you’d come. Nothing was going to happen to us… Sean had his ‘candy‘ too!”
At that, my face darkened.
I looked at the silver hairpin 1 had designed myself.
I flicked Susie’s forehead with my finger, not hard, but enough to make her blink.
“And you dare say that with such a smug look?” I growled, the fear I had felt earlier turning into a stern heat. “Didn’t I tell you never to switch it off? Do you have any idea what it did to us when your signal vanished? Why did it take you so long to send me your location?”
Susie rubbed her forehead, sulking and pouting her lip.
“I’m just a kid! I’m sorry… and see… the moment something bad happened, turned it on right away. See? It worked!”
“And what if next time you don’t get the chance?” my voice rose, the terrifying ‘what–ifs‘ churning inside my chest.
“What if they had taken that hairpin and crushed it before you could blink?”
Seeing my grim expression and the way my eyes were glowing, Susie didn’t dare argue further.
She shrank back into Natalie’s shoulder. Sean, ever the protector of his sister, tugged at Natalie’s sleeve, unable to stand watching Susie get scolded.
Natalie caught his pleading look.
She looked at me, her gaze softening, pleading for mercy for the pups who had already been through enough.
She quickly stepped in.
“Alright, Baron. They’ve learned their lesson this time. They saw what happens when the lights go out. They won’t switch off the

Susie shook her head vigorously:
Sean nodded solemnly.

Since Natalie had spoken, I let it drop, though I made a mental note to upgrade the hairpins to a biometrically locked “always–on” mode the moment we got back to home.
