Jensen’s POV

My hands remained steady on the wheel.

Once, perhaps even a few hours ago, I might have tolerated Sharon’s presence under my roof for the sake of my mother’s desperate wish to see a grandchild.

I would have let her carry the pup to term, locking her away in the west wing until the lineage was secure.

But now?

That child no longer had any reason to be born.

Even if the pup was of my own blood, Sharon had once plotted with a rogue physician to see Natalie burned alive in an industrial bay.

That debt was massive, written in ash and blood, and it had to be repaid.

And I would repay it with this child’s life.

This was never a pup I had longed for.

It was not a child born of a true mate bond, not a child conceived between me and Natalie.

I didn’t care in the least.

The tires of my car screeched to a halt on the gravel driveway of the pack house.

Hansel’s sedan pulled up alongside me a split-second later.

The rear door of his car opened, and a man stepped out into the night holding a leather briefcase.

We arrived at the old estate at nearly the same time.

I pushed the heavy double doors open, the wood groaning against the hinges.

Loretta hurried down the grand staircase, her face pale, freezing when she saw me walking in with Hansel and a pack lawyer trailing directly behind us like a shadow.

Her heart gave a sudden, visible lurch beneath her silk robe.

“Jensen, what are you doing?” Loretta rushed down the final steps, her hands fluttering frantically in the air.

“Sharon was already frightened half to death by your display earlier! The doctor just left… the baby almost didn’t make it! She’s on strict bed rest! If you came back here to torment a pregnant female again, then get out of this house! I won’t allow anyone to harm my grandson!”

Loretta rushed to speak first, her voice shrill and defensive.

“Mom, step aside.”

My tone was steady, neither loud nor soft, but the absolute lack of emotion in it filled the hall.

“Jensen, listen to reason” Loretta didn’t dare push too hard, taking a half-step back as my shadow fell over her.

My expression scared her.

“No matter what tangled circumstances brought you and Sharon together years ago, the child she carries is the family’s only immediate bloodline. Whatever grievances you have, whatever corporate secrets she kept, let her deliver the pup first! Deal with her after the birth, all right? For the sake of the pack’s future

But I didn’t even glance at her.

Instead of arguing, I reached out and took the tablet Hansel was holding, thrusting the glowing screen directly into her hands.

“Look at the screen, Mom,” I said, my voice dead. “See the woman you’ve been protecting.”

Loretta’s eyes widened as she skimmed the files, the raw surveillance footage from the hospital clinic, the graphic chat logs with Dr. Johnson, and the financial trail of the forgery.

Her breath caught, her fingers trembling against the glass.

“How can this be?” Loretta stammered, her voice cracking as she shook her head in frantic denial.

“Sharon… so vicious? To stage a warehouse fire? Impossible! Jensen, don’t be a fool! This has to be Natalie’s trick… this is her way of scrubbing herself clean after running away to the North! She knows she’ll never be the Luna of this territory, she knows she can never climb into high society on her own, so she’s desperate to drag us down! Otherwise, why would she demand payment for five years of design work? Why target Sharon now, right after the announcement of your child?”

Everything, in Loretta’s eyes, was Natalie’s fault.

She was the convenient scapegoat.

I had expected my mother to finally see reason when faced with the raw truth of a murder plot, but clearly, I was wrong.

Her prejudice was a sickness.

No wonder she had never allowed Natalie into this house during the five years we were together.

She had always looked down on her, treating her like a servant

Suddenly, looking at the frantic, stubborn woman before me, I found her completely laughable.

And I did laugh.

“Mom, let’s get one thing straight,” I said, my eyes boring into hers until she looked away.

“Natalie doesn’t need to marry into this family to become high society. She already is. She’s the biological daughter of Waylon Stone from the Stone Pack.”

Loretta gasped, the tablet nearly slipping from her fingers.

“The Stone Pack…” I continued, the name falling like a heavy stone into the silence.

“They are a nomadic pack, Mom. They don’t answer to our local territory lines. They have power, resources, and bloodline
