Just then, the head housekeeper stepped into the room, bowing low. “Luna, Alpha Jensen’s trusted family doctor, has just cleared the outer perimeter gates. He states he has strict orders from the Alpha to conduct an immediate maternal exam and a blood draw for the prenatal file.”
My heart stopped.
The porcelain cup rattled against the saucer.
A cold sweat broke out across my skin.
“I don’t need an exam,” I choked out, my voice a ragged whisper as I pushed the tea away. “I’ve already been thoroughly checked at the hospital. The treatments are exhausting me. Tell them to leave.”
Hearing that Jensen had personally called and dispatched the medical team, Loretta’s eyes lit up.
She assumed her son was simply regretting his earlier explosive temper and was looking for a way to show concern without swallowing his Alpha pride.
She sat beside me and grabbed my cold hands. “Sharon, you see? Jensen still cares about you and the baby. He’s an Alpha; he just carried out a violent display because he’s under immense pressure from the Accord. But sending his personal doctor? Whatever disagreements you’ve had, whatever harsh words were spoken in the foyer, let the doctor check you. If anything happens to this child, both Jensen and I would be utterly heartbroken.”
I stared at her, my breath catching in my throat.
I hadn’t wanted the examination… every instinct in my body was screaming at me to run, to lock the door, to find a way to forge the results before the blood left my veins.
But Loretta’s urgent, pleading words made me falter.
Yes.
The child in my womb was my only bargaining chip now.
It was the only shield I had left against Jensen’s wrath and Jordan’s impending retribution.
If I lost that, I would have absolutely nothing.
I would be thrown out of this estate before the sun went down.
Even if my terminal moon-sickness was exposed as a total lie as long as the baby was healthy, as long as I was carrying undisputed heir, the pack elders would never allow Jensen to discard me completely.
I still had a chance to turn things around.
I could claim I lied about the illness out of desperation, out of a frantic love to be by his side before my wolt died.
A child would force him to keep me in this house.

So, swallowing the lump of pure terror in my throat, I nodded weakly.
I allowed the doctor to proceed
The physician stepped into the room.
He set up his equipment on the vanity table, the silver instruments glinting under the chandelier lights.
He was thorough.
He checked my blood pressure, monitored my fetal heart rate, and drew three vials of dark blood from my arm.

Throughout the entire process, I held my breath, watching his expression for a single slip but his face remained an unreadable mask.
Finally, he stepped back, wiping his stethoscope with an alcohol pad.
He turned to Loretta, his voice calm and measured.
“The prenatal vitals are stable, but the Luna is showing clear physiological signs of stress… a threatened miscarriage. The trauma from the recent events has put the pregnancy at risk. She’ll need absolute, strict bed rest for the time being. No excitement, no travel, and no stress.”
Loretta let out a massive, audible sigh of relief, her hand moving to her chest.
“Fine, fine. Thank the heavens,” she murmured, her voice trembling with the release of tension. “I’ll see to it that she doesn’t get out of bed again. I’ll handle the arrangements personally.”
She immediately turned to the head housekeeper, her authority returning in a rush.
“Instruct the staff to prepare the secondary master suite in the quiet wing. Assign two permanent attendants to stay by her side twenty-four hours a day. If she so much as lifts a finger, I want to know about it.”
The doctor bowed politely, packing his leather case with a precision that made my skin crawl.
He offered a final nod to me before exiting the room, his footsteps echoing down the long, carpeted hallway.
I leaned back against the cushions, closing my eyes as a wave of relief washed over me.
I had survived the room.
I was on bed rest.
Jensen couldn’t touch me while the heir was threatened.

Jensen’s POV
The steering wheel of my car felt like iron beneath my fingers, my knuckles white as I pushed the vehicle to its absolute limit
My phone, mounted on the dashboard, flashed with an incoming call.
The caller ID displayed the private frequency of the pack doctor I had sent to the pack house.
1 swiped the screen immediately, “Speak.”

The doctor didn’t hesitate.
“Alpha Jensen, I’ve completed the comprehensive physical and maternal evaluation on the Luna,” the doctor reported, his tone clinical.
