The digital storm raging over the Southern pack networks was entirety behind rae the moment the glass doors of the Office of the King of the North Baron slid shut, cutting off the humid, heavy air of fire Nightfang Pack.
I had no idea what Jensen was plotting in the wake of the evidence I had unleashed, nor did I care.
Jensen was a phantom from an archive I had permanently sealed,
Nyx, my inner wolf, stretched languidly within my consciousness, her pitch–black fur sleek and free. Co
‘He doesn’t understand that he’s a little too late,‘ she purred, her golden eyes flashing with a satisfaction. ‘Poor Alpha.
I smoothed the line of my tailored blazer and stepped across the polished marble floor of the grand lobby.
The architecture here was different from the traditional, heavy stone dens of the Southern lineages; it was a towering monument of glass and steel with the energy of a pack that ruled through commerce and global influence rather than provincial borders.
I approached the high, curved reception desk, ready to announce myself to the staff and wait for a security clearing, as any visitor would.
But before I could even open my mouth to speak, the receptionist’s eyes went wide.
She stood up instantly, bowing her head in a gesture of profound respect.
When she looked back up, a bright, welcoming smile illuminated her face.
“Luna,” she said, her voice clear and formal, yet laced with a genuine warmth that caught me off guard.
“The Alpha is currently in his private study on the top floor… There is a secure, biometric elevator directly down the eastern corridor. Would you like me to personally escort you up, or would you prefer to go on your own?”
I paused, my hand tightening slightly around the strap of my bag.
“You know me?” I asked.
“I haven’t provided my identification or my registry token yet.”
The receptionist let out a soft, respectful chuckle, her posture remaining perfectly aligned.
“The Alpha sent your digital profile and your biological scent–signature to our security division the moment the corporate registry was finalized last month, Luna. He instructed the entire staff that if the Luna arrives at the headquarters, no one is to stop you, no one is to question your presence, and no appointment is ever required. You have full clearance over every level of this territory. You may go straight up to his office at any time.”
Hearing her words, a sudden, unexpected softness bloomed in my chest.
Baron had quietly rewoven the entire pack to ensure I never felt like an outsider again.
He was an Alpha who ruled millions, yet his first priority was making sure his mate walked through his doors with her head held

high
‘He values us,‘ Nyx murmured, her head resting on her paws as she let out a contented, low vibration.
Just then, the private elevator bank beside the reception desk chimed.
I instinctively turned my head toward the sound, expecting to see a corporate executive or a high–level pack advisor stepping out into the lobby, only to freeze completely at the sight of the tall, broad–shouldered man who emerged from the carriage.
My breath caught in my throat, my eyes narrowing as the scent hit my nose.
“You? What are you doing here?”
The question escaped my lips before I could control it.
I never expected to run into Flynn here, of all places.
*
He was supposed to be handling the enforcement lines along the border, thousands of miles away from the Southern corporate
sectors.
Flynn looked just as startled to see me standing in the lobby.
He paused mid–step, his sharp eyes scanning my face before a look of reljef washed over his features.
He quickly walked toward me, his heavy boots clicking against the marble as he closed the distance between us.
“You came to see Baron?” Flynn asked, his voice low and rich.
“Mm.” I hesitated for a fraction of a second, my thumb tracing the/strap of my bag as the sudden presence of my bloodline made me feel strange.
I looked past his shoulder toward the entrance, a quiet curiosity blooming in my mind.
“Did… did Mom and Dad come down too?”
“Not yet,” Flynn said, his expression softening with a touch of familial concern.
“Mom’s health has only just begun to recover and Dad wants her to rest longer, and things at the main camp aren’t fully settled with the council elders yet. But they miss you very much, Natalie. They speak of you every sunrise,”
“Dad actually sent me ahead as an envoy,” he continued, a faint, proud smile touching his lips.
“He wanted to make sure you had everything you needed for the studio launch. He sent me with some ancestral records for your transcriptions and a few traditional silver amulets as gifts for my niece and nephew. They need to start learning the protective runes of the Stone lineage.”
Hearing his explanation, I wasn’t bothered in the least.
“Where are you headed now, then?” I asked, noticing the tactical leather gear he wore beneath his long coat.
“If you just arrived, why are you leaving the headquarters already?”
Flynn’s smile vanished, replaced instantly with a look of seriousness.

His brow furrowed, his eyes turning toward the glass doors as his voice dropped into a whisper meant only for my ears.
“There’s been word from the countryside,” he said-
“The scouts I left at the old border post sent an encrypted bird… I’m going down to check it out personally?
My own brow furrowed, a sudden, cold sense of unease twisting in my gut. –
Nyx pricked her ears within my mind, her posture turning alert.
“About my background? About the human family that raised me before the Summers Bought me?”
“Yes,” Flynn said, his jaw tightening until the bone showed sharply against his tan skin.
“If those villagers really just took the wrong pup from the hospital ward twenty–ddd years ago during the pack wars, it’s one thing. But when our trackers began investigating the old registry logs in that sector… their house mysteriously caught fire in the middle of the night. The entire structure was doused in a chemical accelerant. They nearly burned alive in their beds.”
My throat tightened. “Who would do that… just to hide a past?”
The word fire hit me like a physical blow to the chest, sending a shiver of heat through my fingers.
I thought of the warehouse.
I thought of Sharon’s laughter on the tape.
“If someone in the village hadn’t gotten up to tend to a sick pup and spotted the flames early, they’d be dead,” Flynn continued, his hands clenching into fists.
“I looked into their records myself, Natalie. I dug through three generations of their lineage. They are completely clean, ordinary farmers with nothing suspicious or political in their history. But that… that is exactly what makes it suspicious.”
