I stood completely frozen beneath his touch, my breath catching in my throat as a strange, overwhelming tide of emotion flooded my chest.
For a terrifying second, I didn’t know how to react to it.
My body actually stiffened beneath his palm, instinctively waiting for the warmth to disappear.
Waiting for the affection to turn conditional.
That was how it had always been in the Summers house.
Kindness was temporary.
Protection came with a price.
色
Every gentle word carried an invisible hook buried beneath it.
But Flynn’s touch held none of that calculation.
Even when Quincy had treated me kindly there had always been a strange distance between us.
I had blamed myself back then, thinking my muted wolf was the reason I couldn’t feel the pack bond.
But with Sharon, it had been entirely different.
Was this the true, undeniable power of blood ties?
Was the spirit of the wolf so absolute that it recognized its own flesh even through a veil of lies?
Now, looking into Flynn’s sharp eyes that mirrored the exact shade of my own, the truth was undeniable.
Even though I hadn’t spent much time with Flynn, the very instant his hand touched my head, neither of us felt a single shred of awkwardness.
My eyes stung with a sudden, hot rush of tears.
In my twenty–some years of life, this was the first time I’ve truly felt what family affection meant.
‘He is our brother, he is safe.‘ Nyx whispered within my mind, rumbling purr of submission to the family bond.
Flynn’s throat tightened visibly as he looked down at my face.
“We failed you before, Natalie,” Flynn said, his voice dropping into a rough register that shook with the intensity of his vow.
“The pack elders… we didn’t know you were alive. But from now on, I will protect you. No matter who dares to hurt you, no matter what pack territory you walk through, you tell me. Right or wrong, whether the council agrees or the high laws forbid it, I will always stand by your side. I mean it. A Stone does not let his sister bleed alone.”
The words shattered something inside me.

My firoat fightened so painfully I had to look away before the tears spilling down my face became humiliatingly obvious.
I wiped the single tear from my check with the back of my hand and forced a light, steady smile to my lips.
“I’m doing well now, Flynn,” I said.
“Baron is here, and the studio is/thriving. If those five years of hardship and betrayal in this city were the price I had to pay to finally find my true family, and to meet an Alpha who actually sees my worth, then I believe everything from here on will only get better”
“Yes,” Flynn ground out between his teeth, his hand dropping from my head to rest securely of my shoulder.
“Things will be better from now on… The South will learn what happens when they touch a daughter of the North, I saw the news flashing across the networks just now before I stepped out of the carriage. The whole city knows she faked the moon–sickness and engineered the warehouse arson. Jensen may have gotten her medical bail through his corporate lawyers, but-”
“Medical bail?”
I froze, the smile vanishing from my lips as my voice turned instantly cold.
I frowned.
My mind immediately cataloged the medical profiles I had stolen from Dr. Johnson’s private database.
I was absolutely certain that Sharon had nothing physically serious wrong with her body.
Her wolf was dead, yes, but her human vitals were as stable as a horse.
“What illness could she possibly claim to evade a formal tribunal under the martial code?”
“Insanity,” Flynn spat, the word leaving his mouth like a mouthful of dirt.
His lip curled into a low sneer that bared his canines for a split second.
“There’s a psychiatric evaluation filed by the Jensen’s private physicians, stating she suffered a total psychotic break due to maternal trauma and the loss of her wolf. Whether it’s true or just a legal shield Jensen manufactured to protect his pack’s public shares from a total collapse… it doesn’t matter. The Stone Pack won’t let this go… A medical parole won’t save her from our enforcers.”
