Chapter 264 A Brother’s Gifts

Natalie’s POV
The young girl stood in the center of the kindergarten reception area, her posture remarkably staarty for a pup of her apparent age
I kept my gaze fixed on her, a cold ripple of unease tightening the muscles in my back.
Before the silence in the hallway could stretch into something awkward, I forced my features to soften.
“Sean, Susie,” I said, my voice smooth and rhythmic as I stepped closer to Baron’s side, though my eyes never left the small girl’s face.
*Making friends on your very first day? That’s wonderful! It looks like you’re alreaply settling into the pack’s routine.”
Susie, however, didn’t match my enthusiasm.
Still tucked firmly under Baron’s massive arm, she stopped wriggling and turned her head, her golden eyes narrowing as she looked at the little girl standing before us.
Her small nostrils flared.
“We don’t want it,” Susie declared, her high–pitched voice flat and devoid of any childish warmth.
She dismissed the offering with a sharp flick of her little wrist. “You can have it.”
Beside me, still wrapped tightly around my neck, Sean shifted his weight.
His small, warm cheek remained pressed against mine, his gaze tracking his sister’s interaction.
He simply tightened his grip around my shoulders, his silence a clear agreement with his twin’s decision.
The twins shared a primal, telepathic link that didn’t require spoken words.
The little girl blinked, her clear eyes wide as she looked at the paper bag, and then, rather than looking insulted or hurt by the blunt rejection, her face suddenly lit up with a brilliant delight.
“Really?” she gasped, her voice sweet and articulate.
“I can really have it? But… what if the home–room teacher asks why you didn’t take the pack clearance tokens? She might check the distribution log.”
“We won’t tell,” Susie cut in quickly, her patience entirely exhausted.
She turned her torso completely, burying her face into the fabric of Baron’s suit coat as she tugged at his lapel.
“Daddy, let’s go. It’s too hot here, and the scent of the cleaning soap is making my nose itchy.”
Baron let out a low, rumbling chuckle.
He shot a final, calculating look at the small girl with the snack bag before turning his heel toward the grand oak exit. “Alright, my princess,” Baron said, his tone leveling into a rich, soothing baritone as he led the way out. “Time to leave the den It’s

Sean’s defense.
Within my arms, his small head snapped up, his golden eyes widening with an intense flash of curiosity.
“Uncle?” Sean asked, his voice small but clear. “What does he look like, Daddy? Is he handsome/
Baron didn’t even pause his stride as we descended the wide stone steps toward the driveway.
“Not as handsome as me, sport,” Baron boasted, his tone entirely serious.
“Your uncle Flynn is just a rugged border tracker, he spends too much time running through the mud to compete with your father.”
I nearly laughed aloud, a genuine sound escaping my lips as I reached out to swat his arm.
The King of the North was currently competing with a five–year–old’s imagination over a beauty contest.
It was a ridiculous, beautiful sight, and it served to melt the lingering dread of the mystery child from my skin.
We reached the curb where the convoy of armored SUVs was idling.
Baron opened the door to the lead transport, and we carried the children into the leather–scented cabin, where Flynn was already waiting on the wide bench seat, his long coat unbuttoned to reveal his tactical gear.
The moment our shadows fell across the threshold, Flynn’s face lit up with an absolute, radiant joy.
His golden eyes locked onto the faces of the twins.
“Susie, Sean,” Flynn said, his rough voice shaking slightly with the intensity of his emotion as he leaned forward.
“I’m your uncle Flynn. I’ve traveled across the high ridges from the main camp just to find you. Here… these are my initial gifts for you from the family chest.”
From the floorboards of the secondary transport pool, he produced two large, neatly wrapped packages, the paper thick and embossed with the silver runic seal of the Stone lineage.
Susie immediately slid down from Baron’s lap onto the seat beside my brother.
Her small, agile fingers ripped through the silver paper frantically tearing away the packaging until the prize inside was revealed.
It was a brand–new laptop.
Her eyes widened until the golden rings of her irises seemed to glow, and she let out a high–pitched, ecstatic squeal.
“Thank you!”
Before Flynn could even brace himself for her response, Susie threw her small arms around his neck, leaning in and planting a wet kiss directly onto his weathered cheek.
The tough warrior looked completely paralyzed.
“Anything you want in this territory, you just tell Uncle,” Flynn promised, his voice cracking slightly as he gathered her small frame into a tight, crushing hug.

“She’s perfect! She carries the exact curve of the Stone line’s brow!”
Baron turned his face away, his jaw ghtening into a hard line as he flatly refused to wate affection.
Meanwhile, Sean remained sitting quietly in my lap, his small hands working methodically at package.
