Chapter 272 The Shattered Mirror

Natalie’s POV

At the base of the wooden porch steps, Jouran against the stumps

frowned as I looked down at the pathetic spectacle.

lay crumpled like a falan oak, his poleret

Nyx let out an irritated huff within my consciousness, entirely revolted by the weak frequency of the man who had once ruled by

childhood.

“Get him into the secondary transport vehicle,” I commanded the vanguard enforcers.

“Move him to the regional pack hospital before his core fails completely… I won’t have his blood souring the soil of this clearing

But before the Stone Pack guards could even step forward to lift his heavy shoulders, Quincy staggered.

She let out a sharp, choked gasp, her knees buckling beneath the weight of her silk robes, and she fell too, collapsing directly onto the gravel beside her husband, her eyes closing as she drifted into total unconsciousness.

The guards paused, their silver-tipped spears lowering slightly as they glanced at each other, completely speechless.

The warriors looked between the two fallen elders and then up at the porch where Baron and I stood, unsure of how to handle a dual medical collapse.

My brows knitted together into a tight, hard line.

I didn’t rush down the steps.

Baron shifted his massive frame, his towering shadow completely enveloping me as he bent close to my ear.

The thick, comforting scent wrapped around my senses, but his voice was low.

“Look at her left sleeve, Natalie,” he murmured, his dark eyes fixed on the fallen Matriarch. “Do you see the faint residue clinging to the lace of the cuff?”

I followed his gaze, my eyes immediately locking onto the specific patch of fabric near her wrist.

“What is that?”

“Something that knocks a human or a low-tier wolf out exceptionally fast if inhaled directly,” Baron said grimly, his nostrils flaring slightly.

“It’s a black-market pharmaceutical block. She must have crushed the capsule in her palm right before she dropped, choosinger moment to mimic her husband’s collapse.”

Even now… even after everything that had come to light and the blood-lineage logs had proven I owed them nothing, she was still actively scheming against me.

She was still using the old, manipulative tactics to rewrite her positioning on the board.

“Pass out here on the stones, get carried inside the lodge by my enforcers, play on my lingering guilt as an adopted daughter, and

In this house long enough to worm her way back into my life… Is that the grand plan, Quinry?”

Quincy lay perfectly still her face

her breathing remaining artificially slow to mimic a comatose state

But beside me, Baron let out a low, mocking rumble from the back of his throat.

“”Don’t bother wasting your breath on her, Natalie,” Baron said coldly, his tage hand sliding down to wrap around mine, his grip firm and unyielding.

“Any sacred bond you once believed you shared with that female is gone, burned to ash five years ago. The very fact that you didn’t command the Stone Pack to burn the Summers family estate to the ground the moment you regained your lineage is already a mercy greater than they deserve.”

He clasped my hand tighter, finding my palm unusually cold.

“What are you waiting for?” Baron ordered icily, his dark eyes snapping toward the waiting enforcers. “Throw them out of this sector. Clear the road.”

The guards obeyed instantly.

Two of the heavy-tier warriors stepped forward, their leather-gloved hands gripping Quincy’s arms, while the secondary team hauled Jordan’s unmoving form toward the rear of their luxury sedan.

“Come,” Baron said softly as he tugged me gently back toward the warmth of the open doorway.

“Let’s go back to the dining room and eat. The meat is getting cold, and the twins are waiting. Don’t let people who don’t matter a single scrap to your future spoil the mood of your first country run.”

The cold ache that had begun to settle into the center of my chest dissolved entirely.

With this man beside me, I knew I would never feel abandoned again.
