Chapter 273 Shackled

Sharon’s POV

sat on the edge of the mattress, my fingers trembling se vindenily that the plastic casing of the former phone I had managed to bribe a low-level maid for clicked against my nails.

Outside the window, the dense forest of the neutral axis loomed like a wall

My thumb hovered over the screen, dialing the one number I had memorized since childhood.

Ring… Please, just ring.

The line connected.

The voice that answered was weak and trembling.

“Hello?”

“Mom! Save me! Please, save me! They’re going to kill me!” I shrieked into the receiver, my voice cracking into a shrill scream that tore at the back of my bruised throat.

I gripped the phone with both hands, tears of pure terror spilling over my lashes.

“Jensen has locked me away, Mom! He’s trying to destroy me! You have to bring the Summers Pack guards to clear the perimeter! Please, if you ever loved me, come get me!”

Through the speaker, I heard Quincy’s lips part.

For a fraction of a second, I thought the maternal bond would win.

I thought she would command the pack’s vanguards to storm the

gates.

But then, the heavy, suffocating silence returned over the line.

The memory of what I had done flashed between us like a silver blade.

“Mom?” I whimpered, the cold sweat breaking across my neck. “Mom, answer me!”

The receiver gave a faint, mechanical click.

The line went completely dead.

I stared at the screen in absolute disbelief.

My mother had hung up on me.

“No… no, no, no!” I screamed, my thumbs flying across the glass interface as I hit the redial button over and over again, my breath coming in panicked gasps.

I thrust the phone back against my ear, praying for the sound of her voice, for any sign of a connection.

Instead, a flat, mechanical, and entirely merciless automated recording blared through the speaker: “The number you are calling

The phone slipped from my slick fingers, clattering onto the hardwood floorboards.

A volatile mixture of rage and raw terror tore at my chest, making my lungs seize as if the room had suddenly been drained of

oxygen.

“Why?” I shrieked at the empty walls, my fingernails digging into the skin of my pairs until I drew beads of dark blood: “Why won’t you answer me? Why are you leaving me in this cage? I am your blood! I am the true heir of the Summers lineage!”

With a hysterical, guttural scream that sounded like a wounded animal, I lunged forward, scooped the burner phone from the floor, and hurled it with all my strength against the opposite brick wall.

The plastic casing shattered into a dozen useless black fragments, the battery rolling across the rug like a dead coal.

The echoing crack of the impact had barely faded when a sharp, rhythmic sound registered from the corridor outside my bedroom door.

Footsteps.

Heavy tactical boots crunching against the floorboards, moving with a terrifying speed.

“There’s a biological scent anomaly from the west wing!” a harsh, commanding voice barked through the walls.

“The frequency tracker just picked up an unauthorized cellular transmission! Don’t let her get away! Lock down the corridor!”

My scalp prickled with a sudden, freezing dread.

Without a single second of hesitation, I bolted toward the secondary service exit behind the velvet draperies, my bare feet slipping against the polished wood as I fled into the shadows of the mansion’s rear wing.

As I ran down the dark stairwell, my lungs burned as if they were filled with ash.

My mind was a chaotic, spinning vortex of paranoia and memory.

I had seen it with my own eyes during the midday meal – the white powder the head maid had slipped into my broth right before the silver tray was carried into my chamber.

Poison.

It was the exact same clinical method I had once used against Quincy, a taste of my own medicine formulated under Jensen’s direct command.

But this time, the target was me.

“No, it can’t be,” I wheezed, my hand gripping the cold iron railing as I descended into the lower level.

“Jensen wouldn’t dare do this to me. He owes me his entire life, his title, his fortune… he wouldn’t turn his enforcers against me… would he?”

The question hung in the freezing air, unanswered.

reached the bottom of the stairwell, panting heavily as I threw my weight against the heavy wooden exit door, expecting to break out into the freedom of the rear gardens

Instead, the door jolted open barely three inches before hitting a solid obstruction.

My heart sank into my stomach as I looked through the narrow gap.

The entire exterior of the villa had been systematically caged in with heavy, industrial-grade metal fencing.

Thick strands of razor wire were strung across the mesh, humming with a low, vibrant current of live electricity that made the hairs on my arms stand up in terror.

“How… how did it all unravel like this?” I whispered, my forehead pressing against the cold wood of the sealed door.

“There she is! By the rear loading bay! Grab her!”

The enforcers rounded the corner of the hallway.

I turned and tried to sprint back toward the upper levels, but my body, still profoundly weak and depleted from the recent miscarriage and the chemical abortive fluid, gave out entirely.

My legs turned to water, my boots slipping as I collapsed onto my knees against the concrete floor.

I wheezed, gasping frantically for air that wouldn’t fill my lungs, and when the heavy hands of the pack guards caught up to my shoulders, I had absolutely no physical strength left to resist their grip.

“Let go of me!” I screamed hoarsely, my voice cracking as they dragged me backward across the stone floor.

I thrashed against their hold, my fingernails clawing at the thick leather of their arm-guards.

“I am a Luna! I am the legal Luna of this territory! How dare you lay your filthy hands on an Alpha’s mate? Do you want to be executed by the High Council? Do you want to die? Let me go this instant!”

CRACK.

A sharp, deafening sound split the air of the corridor.

A sudden, blinding flash of white pain exploded across my left cheek as the head servant’s palm caught me flush across the face, the sheer force of the blow snapping my head to the side.

I froze, the air leaving my lungs in a sharp gasp.

The room went entirely still, the guards holding my arms tight as the head maid stepped forward, her face completely expressionless.

“Luna?” she asked, her voice dripping with a cold contempt that made my blood run cold.

She leaned down, her eyes boring into mine without a single drop of fear.

“Alpha Jensen signed the official bond dissolving decree over the pack registry three hours ago, Sharon. He snapped a photo of your signature and posted it to the global channels… You are nothing to this lineage now. You are just a human criminal serving out a medical parole in our cellar. Make trouble again, try to slip another transmission past our borders, and we will kill you. ourselves and he won’t lift a single finger to stop us.”
