Chapter 303 Don’t Blame Baron For Caring
Chapter 303 Don’t Blame Baron For Caring
Jensen’s POV
The entire bar smelled of smoke, expensive alcohol, and stale rain drifting in each time the entrance opened.
But beneath all of it, I could still smell her.
Winter jasmine.

I leaned forward heavily, one elbow braced against the table while my fingers dug into my temple hard enough to leave marks against my skin.
The sharp burn barely registered anymore.
Across from me, Felix sat in exhausted silence.
His expression had gone completely rigid sometime during my third glass.
Maybe my fourth.
I couldn’t remember anymore.
The only thing I remembered clearly was Natalie stepping into that armored SUV earlier tonight without looking back once.
Not once.
Felix finally exhaled through his nose and leaned back against the leather booth.
“Jensen,” he said quietly, “you need to let reality settle properly in your head.”
I laughed under my breath.
Reality.
What a disgusting word.
“You keep acting like the world froze the moment you realized your mistake,” Felix continued, rubbing a hand across his jaw. “But people move forward. Life moves forward. Natalie moved forward.”
Something inside me snapped violently.
“Why the hell would she move forward?” i exploded, my voice erupting through the bar so sharply several patrons glanced toward our booth.
The glass in my hand slammed against the table hard enough for dark liquor to spill across the polished wood.
My breathing turned uneven instantly.
“No,” I snarled, shaking my head hard. “No. That doesn’t make sense.”
Felix closed his eyes briefly like he already regretted coming tonight.

pushed forward desperately.
“She loved me for five years, Felix”
The words came out cracked and frantic now.
“Five years.”
My chest tightened painfully.

“Do you understand what that means? We lived under the same roof every single day. She woke up beside me every morning. She memorized my routines. My moods. My scent.”
I dragged a trembling hand through my hair.
“That’s over sixteen hundred days.”
The number sounded monstrous spoken aloud.
“Sixteen hundred days of her entire world revolving around me.”
My throat burned.
“How does someone just stop loving after that?”
Felix didn’t answer immediately.
That silence terrified me more than yelling would have.
“She isn’t over me,” I whispered hoarsely, more to myself than to him. “She’s just angry.”
Because anger I could survive.
Anger still meant emotion.
Still meant attachment.
Still meant there was something left between us.
р
“She’s furious because I married Sharon,” I continued quickly, almost desperately now, as though saying the words aloud could somehow construct logic out of my collapse. “She’s furious because I broke my promises. Because I wasn’t there when the warehouse burned.”
A sharp ache tore through my ribs at the memory.
“But I didn’t know she was inside!” I shouted suddenly. “The reports were incomplete! Nobody told me she was trapped there!”
My voice cracked violently on the last sentence.
And before I realized it, a tear slid down my face.
I froze.
So did Felix.

The humiliation of it nearly made me choke.
I turned away immediately, wiping harshly at my face, but it was too late.
The Alpha of the Nightfang Pack was crying in a bar over a woman he’d destroyed with his own hands.
Pathetic.
Completely pathetic.
Felix’s expression softened despite himself.
“Jensen…”
“When we were younger,” I interrupted roughly, staring blankly at the liquor bottle in front of me, “our instructors always said acknowledging your mistakes was the mark of a real leader.”
A bitter laugh escaped me.
“Well, I know I was wrong now.”
The confession hollowed me out.
“I know exactly where I failed her.”
My fingers curled tightly around the neck of the bottle.
“I was arrogant. I prioritized business alliances. I let Sharon manipulate the entire situation while Natalie suffered right in front of
me.”
I swallowed harshly.
“But people deserve second chances, don’t they?”
The question sounded fragile.
Hopeless.
I leaned forward suddenly and grabbed Felix’s arm with desperate force.
“She’ll give me one chance to fix this, right?”
Felix’s jaw tightened instantly.
“Jensen…”
“That Baron bastard means nothing.”
The words came out sharp and venomous before Felix could answer.
My chest burned hotter immediately.
“That man is nothing but some discarded northern exile hiding behind the Stone family name. He has no real standing No influence. No inheritance.”

The jealousy poisoning my bloodstream twisted harder.
“He’s known her for what A few months?”
I laughed harshly.
“A few months compared to five years.”
I shook my head stubbornly.

“Nata ie isn’t the kind of woman who gives her heart away that quickly. She’s sentimental. Loyal. Deeply attached to history.”
My voice dropped lower.
“She can’t possibly love him more than me already.”
Felix stared at me for a long moment.
Then he slowly removed my hand from his sleeve.
“Jensen,” he said tiredly, “stop insulting Baron just because you’re drowning in regret.”
1 stiffened.
“He risked his life for her.”
The words landed heavily between us.
“When Natalie was trapped in that fire, he went in after her while everyone else hesitated.”
My jaw tightened violently.
Felix continued anyway.
“He protected her. Stayed beside her. Helped her rebuild her life.”
Every sentence felt like another blade sliding deeper into my ribs.
“You don’t have to like him,” Felix said bluntly, “but don’t pretend his place beside her is meaningless now.”
I slammed my palm against the table.
“It is meaningless!”
The glass beside my hand shattered instantly.
Several people turned toward us again.
1 barely noticed.
“Natalie doesn’t fall in love that fast,” I barked hoarsely. “She’s not Sharon. She doesn’t jump between emotions overnight.”
The mention of Sharon filled me with immediate disgust.

God
How had I once mistaken obsession for love?
How had I been stupid enough to throw away the woman who truly cared for me for someone like Sharon Summers?
Felix rubbed a hand over his face slowly.
“You’re drunk,” he muttered.
“I’m not drunk.”
“You’re absolutely drunk.”
“I know exactly what I’m saying.”
“No,” Felix snapped suddenly, his patience finally fracturing. “You don’t.”
Silence crashed heavily between us.
Felix leaned forward, his voice quieter now but infinitely harsher.
“You’re not grieving Natalie anymore.”
My stomach twisted.
“You’re grieving the realization that someone else finally valued her properly.”
The words hit like a physical strike.
I stared at him blankly.
Felix sighed heavily.
“She spent years loving you openly while you took her for granted because you believed she’d never leave.”
The truth of it sliced straight through me.
“And now another man treasures everything you ignored.”
My breathing became shallow.
Felix’s expression hardened.
“That’s why you can’t stand Baron.”
I opened my mouth instinctively.
Nothing came out.
Because deep down…
I knew he was right.

+hated Baron because he had done what I never did.
He saw Natalie clearly.
He saw her brilliance.
And he cherished it openly.
The realization made something poisonous coil tighter around my lungs.
Felix studied my face carefully before speaking again.
“You know what the cruelest part is?”
I looked up slowly.
“She probably would’ve forgiven almost anything else.”
His words were soft now.
“But not Sharon.”
Pain exploded through my chest so violently I physically recoiled.
Because he was right again.
Natalie hated Sharon.
1 shut my eyes tightly.
Ancestors.
What had I done?
“I dissolved the mate bond,” I whispered weakly.
Felix looked at me with exhausted pity.
“I know.”
“The bond is broken.”
“I know.”
“So Natalie can come back now.”
The silence afterward stretched too long.
My pulse started hammering harder.
“She can come back,” I repeated desperately. “The position beside me is empty again.”
Felix looked away briefly before answering.

No, Jensen.”
The quiet certainty in his voice shattered something inside me.
I stood abruptly from the booth so fast the chair screeched violently against the floor.
“She loved me!”
My voice cracked across the entire bar.
“Do you hear me?! She loved me more than anyone!”
Several customers openly stared now.
I didn’t care.
My chest felt like it was collapsing inward.
