Chapter 313 The Path Of The Unbroken
Ruby’s POV
My fingers were still locked around Waylon’s forearm because my instincts had not released their grip on fear.

My claws pressed faintly into his sleeve, my breath coming in shallow, uneven intervals as my wolf tried to recalibrate the chaos that had unfolded just outside our perimeter.
For twenty–five winters, I had carried grief inside my chest… Twenty–five winters of silence where Natalie’s name had only existed as a wound I was not allowed to touch.
And now, the first time our wheels touched her territory again, blood and steel had answered us before words ever could.
A Southern predator had breached the line and Baron had not hesitated.
That was what unsettled me most.
Waylon, however, sat as though he had witnessed nothing beyond expectation.
His posture remained straight and anchored.
The faint glow in his golden eyes carried recognition.
After a moment, his deep voice broke the cabin silence.
“The male at the gate threshold,” he asked calmly, “that was Jensery, the Alpha?”
My grip tightened instinctively at the name.
The same male who had once fractured my daughter’s emotional alignment and left her bleeding in silence.
Behind the steering column, Baron’s posture had already begun to settle.
The earlier aggression that had surged through his system was fading, slowly contained beneath disciplined control.
“Yes,” Baron answered without hesitation. “That was him.”
His voice was smooth again.
“His intelligence cells have been tracking our movernent lines for weeks,” he continued. “He has never fully detached from Natalie’s placement… Since the warehouse incident, his behavioral pattern shifted. Not abandonment… correction. As if he believes time can still rewrite what was already severed.”
There was no emotion in how he said it.
My wolf rose sharply inside me, claws scraping against instinct.
“Baron,” I said firmly, “listen to me clearly.”
The cabin temperature felt like it dropped beneath my words.
“You do not measure your worth against a man who has already lost his place in her story,” I continued. “I may not have raised

Natalie under my roof for every season of her life, but I know our bloodline. Once a Stone closes a path, it does not reopen itself for regret.”
My gaze hardened slightly as I leaned forward.
“Her ink does not erase itself for ghosts.”
A brief silence followed.
Baron exhaled softly, then his voice came, quieter than before.
“Mom… I know her script.”
That single line shifted something inside me.
His amber eyes stayed forward, locked on the estate path, but something in his expression softened… just slightly.
“Even if every calculation fails,” he continued, “even if her path leads back to him in the end… I will not obstruct it.”
My breath stalled slightly as Waylon’s gaze sharpened.
Baron’s fingers remained steady on the wheel.
“What matters to me,” he said, “is that she is not broken by what she chooses. Her happiness is the only law I recognize.”
A pause.
Then, he continued… quieter this time.
“That is the only reason I haven’t erased him completely from this system yet.”
The words were simple.
Waylon did not speak immediately… Neither did I.
Because what stood in front of us was true love.
Waylon finally spoke, voice low.
“And she knows this level of surrender from you?”
Baron shook his head once.
“No.”
A pause.
Then, softer still.
“She will choose what she wants. I will not rewrite her decision with my hands.”
My chest tightened.
Something inside me shifted then slowly and reluctantly.

And for the first time since entering her territory, I understood something clearly.
This male was not trying to take my daughter.
My voice softened without permission.
“You child…” I whispered. “What kind of spirit do you carry…”
Because I understood now why he survived what he did and why he still stood upright after it.
As Natalie’s registered mate, it had been necessary for both Waylon and me to study him before crossing the border.
We had seen fragments, enough to understand the shape of his past.
Enough to know the Gunn estate did not raise a boy.
It tested one.
And most did not return intact.
Ruby’s gaze lingered on his shoulders now, no longer as a judge–but as someone quietly revising a conclusion.
If he had manipulated her… used lineage pressure… or weaponized affection, I would have rejected him instantly, my thoughts
settled.
But he does not twist her path.
He steps away from it.
That was what unsettled me most.
Because men like that are not easy to predict.
They do not fight for control.
