Chapter–316 The Sovereign Sentinel
Chapter 316 The Sovereign Sentinel
Natalie’s POV
I frowned immediately.
My hand was still wrapped around Baron’s wrist.
Around his injured hand.
The sight of the blood on his palm had my full attention, and I had absolutely no interest in speaking to anyone right now.
Especially not when I still hadn’t gotten an answer.
The phone rang again.
Baron’s gaze flicked toward my pocket before returning to me.
“Answer it.”

His voice was low and steady.
The complete opposite of what I was feeling.
1 tightened my hold on his wrist for anoth
r second before finally releasing him.
Nyx immediately growled.
A sharp, irritated sound that echoed through my chest.
The moment my skin left his, the strange warmth I’d been feeling disappeared.
I hated that.
I hated it far more than I should have.
With a sigh, I pulled out my phone and accepted the call.
“Renee.”
The woman on the other end sounded like she’d just run a marathon.
“Natalie!”
I winced… she was practically shouting.
“Thank God you answered!”
I pulled the phone slightly away from my ear.
“What happened?”
“The launch happened!”

“What?”
“The launch!” Renee repeated excitedly. “The Nightfang collection went live and everything sold out!”
My brows lifted.
Everything?
“Everything?”
“Everything!”
She sounded half ecstatic and half on the verge of a breakdown.
“The first batch disappeared in under three minutes. The second batch is already gone… We’ve got stores calling nonstop, investo calling nonstop, suppliers calling nonstop…”
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
That explained her state.
But then her tone changed.
“That’s not the actual problem.”
Immediately, my expression cooled.
“What happened?”
Silence.

Then:
“Jensen.”
The name alone made my mood plummet.
1 looked up.
Baron was watching me quietly.
As though he already knew exactly who the call was about.
Renee continued.
“Our legal department intercepted an emergency filing request from the Alpha.”
Of course they did
Talmost laughed.
Almost.

“He is attempting to challenge ownership of your transcriptions.”
There it was.
The desperation.
“He claims your concepts were developed under his pack resources and therefore belong to the pack.”
This time I did laugh.
“Let him try.” My voice came out calm.
Dangerously calm.
“The patents are registered under my name.”
“Yes.”
“The Scribe mark is mine.”
“Yes.”
“The designs are mine.”
“Obviously.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
There was silence.
Then Renee sighed.
“No problem.”
“Good.”
I looked toward Baron again.
He still hadn’t moved, something in my chest softened.
“Continue production,” I told Renee. “Expand the manufacturing line and let legal handle Jensen.”
“Understood.”
“And Renee?”
“If he wants to waste his remaining money fighting a case he can’t win
A wall smile appeared.
“Let him.”

The call ended.
I slipped the phone back into my pocket.
Silence settled around the courtyard once more.
The villa doors had already closed.
My parents were inside… the children were inside.
Even Flynn had disappeared.
Leaving only Baron and me beneath the stone portico.
My gaze dropped back to his injured hand.
The scrape had healed now but fresh blood stained the edge of his palm.
Immediately, my irritation returned.
“Jensen was here.”
It wasn’t a question.
Baron’s mouth twitched.
“He was.”
My eyes narrowed.
“What happened?”
A pause.
Then:
“He attempted to stop the convoy.”
My stomach dropped.
“What?”
“He wanted to speak to your parents.”
I stared at him.
Baron looked completely unbothered.
As if nearly causing a diplomatic incident was a normal. Tuesday activity.
“He blocked the road.
My eyes widened.

–“He what?”
Baron’s expression remained perfectly calm.
“He blocked the road.”
“Then?”
His smile appeared.
Slow and dangerous.
Entirely too pleased with himself.
“I removed the obstacle.”
I knew that smile.
I absolutely knew that smile.
And suddenly I wasn’t sure I wanted details.
Unfortunately, curiosity won.
“Baron.”
“Hm?”
“What exactly did you do?”
His smile widened.
“My SUV met his sedan.”
I blinked.
Once.
Twice.
**
“…Met?”
“Violently.”
My mouth opened.
Then closed
Then opened again.
“Baron.

What does violently mean?”
His eyes gleamed.
“The sedan is currently resting in a drainage ditch.”
I stared at him.
For three full seconds.
Then another three.
Nyx practically purred… apparently she approved.
I should have been horrified.
Instead, a laugh escaped me.
Baron’s eyes softened instantly at the sound and suddenly the amusement faded.
Because ! was looking at him again.
Really looking at him.
At the blood on his hands.
At the exhaustion hidden beneath his calm expression.
At the man who had stood between me and every storm that had/come my way.
A heavy ache settled in my chest.
Guilt.
“Baron…”
