Sharon’s POV

I had never seen Hansel look at me like that before.

“The Alpha had sent us concerning the Eternal Love ring,” he said evenly. “The Alpha has ordered us to retrieve it.”

Retrieve… Like I was some thief.

“You’re joking,” I said.

He didn’t smile.

“Hand it over.”

I let out a sharp laugh. “Jensen gave this to me. You think you can just walk in here and take what your Alpha gifted?”

Hansel didn’t argue.

He simply lifted his hand, and the bodyguards stepped inside.

That was when I understood.

“Hansel, don’t you dare!” I lunged for the stairs, but the guards were faster.

One grabbed my shoulder, pinning me against the wall, while the other grabbed my hand.

I thrashed, kicking at their shins, my nails raking the guard’s forearm. I felt Kasha trying to surge forward, the heat of a shift beginning to burn in my veins, but I couldn’t risk it here— not in front of Jensen’s most trusted man.

I was supposed to be sick… My wolf is supposed to be suppressed due to the moon sickness.

“Ah! You bastards!” I shrieked.

They didn’t care. The guard squeezed my knuckles until the bone groaned, and Hansel stepped forward.

He didn’t use any oil, and he didn’t wait. He just gripped the ring and yanked it off. My skin tore at the joint. Blood welled up, bright and hot staining my finger.

“Goodbye, Ms. Sharon,” Hansel said.

He walked out and didn’t even look back at me as I collapsed on the floor, clutching my hand.

Since I came back to the Moonreign pack at eighteen, I hadn’t been treated like a stray; I had worked so hard to erase Natalie… And now, Jensen was letting his guards treat me like a criminal.

I scrambled for my phone, dialing Jensen’s number. One ring… two… then nothing. He had switched to silent.

I looked at my hand, and the ring was gone, leaving a raw, red mark.

Kasha was howling in my head, a sound of pure, wounded fury. “The Alpha has turned his back on us… for that girl. Even in her death, she’s still making our lives miserable.”

I sat in the car, my hands shaking so hard I could barely hold the steering wheel. I had to see him; I had to make him look at me.

I drove to the pack office, ignoring the speed limits, my mind a blur of rage.

When I reached the entrance, the security team moved before I could even kill the engine.

“Ms. Sharon, you are barred from the building… order from the Alpha.”

“I am Sharon, your Luna!” I screamed, slamming my hand against the glass door. “Look at me! I am his mate! Move before I have your heads!”

They didn’t move; they looked at me with the same indifference Hansel had.

I stood on the sidewalk, the wind pulling at my hair. This was Natalie’s fate. This was the humiliation I had planned for her. Why was it happening to me?

Kasha whined, her tail tucked.

I realized then that I had been stupid. I shouldn’t have killed her. I should have kept her alive, locked away where Jensen could see her suffering. If she were still breathing, she would be the problem. But now that she was dead, she had become a saint.

I clenched my fists, a freshly done manicure snapping under the pressure. I didn’t even feel the plastic dig into my palm.

I had one card left… the rib, the debt he believes he owed.

I pulled out my phone and called my doctor.

“Get an ER ready,” I said. My voice was dead. “I want records showing my moon sickness is back, aggressive and spreading due to stress.”

“You can,” I interrupted. “Or I can tell the board about the embezzlement you think I don’t know about. You want to lose your license? Or do you want to help your Luna?”

The doctor’s breathing was heavy over the line. Fine. But the Alpha isn’t a fool. If he checks the labs…”

“Then you make sure the labs match,” I snapped. “I only need three months… three months for him to fall back in love with me while I’m ‘dying.‘ By then, we’ll just call it a miracle misdiagnosis.”

I hung up.

I didn’t believe for a second that Jensen would stay away; he was a man of honor.

He was a man bound by a debt of bone, and if I was dying, he had to come.

I smoothed my hair, adjusted my black veil, and walked toward my car.

“Go on, Natalie,” I thought, looking up at the high floor where Jensen was hiding. “Be the ghost. I’ll be the one he actually has to save.”

The ER was cold where I lay on the bed, my face powdered to look ashen, the monitors hooked to my chest. Every beep felt like a victory.

I heard the heavy thud of the doors. Jensen’s scent–cedar and rain–hit the room before he did.

“Jensen…” I breathed, letting my voice crack. I reached out a trembling hand.

He didn’t take it; he just stood at the foot of the bed, his face like stone. He looked at the monitors, then at the doctor, who was sweating through his white coat.

“What’s the status?” Jensen asked.

“Aggressive relapse, Mr. Luke,” the doctor stammered. “The lymph nodes… it’s spreading fast.”

Jensen didn’t look sad. He looked… suspicious. He walked over to the screen, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the data.

“Show me the scans,” Jensen ordered.
