Jensen’s POV
I stood in the center of my bedroom with my claws out, ready to attack.
The air in the room suddenly shifted; that sweet, floral scent I’d noticed earlier was no longer faint.
My wolf, Cairn, suddenly went silent, muttering something about the scent, leaving me alone in the haze of my own unraveling
senses.
I stumbled toward the bed, my skin sensitive to the point of pain… I needed to lie down, but as I collapsed onto the mattress, I realized I wasn’t alone.
Through the blur of my vision I saw a figure lying peacefully beside me.
My breath hitched, my heart hammering against my ribs so loudly it was the only sound in the world.
“Natalie?”
The name left my lips like a prayer.
There she was, her features softened by the shadows. She looked exactly as she had a month ago.
“Is that you? You’re back? Or… am I finally losing my mind?”
I reached out with a trembling hand, terrified that if my skin touched hers, she would dissolve into smoke.
But when my fingers brushed her shoulder, she was warm.
The relief that flooded me was so intense it brought tears to my eyes.

“Jensen, snap out of it…” Cairn rambled, but I tuned him out.

it felt like it would shatter… since her death, I hadn’t felt this alive.
I hadn’t seen her look at me with such raw, undeniable need. The guilt that had been crushing my soul for weeks suddenly lifted, replaced by a starving, manic passion.
I had been given a second chance… The fire hadn’t taken her. The moon had been merciful.
“Natalie!” I choked out, pulling her into my arms.
Theld her so tightly it was as if I wanted to fuse her into my very bones. I buried my face in her neck, breathing her in, my body surging with a fire I no longer had the strength or the desire to fight.
I felt her arms slip around my neck, her touch igniting every nerve ending I possessed. She leaned up and kissed my ear, a soft, wet

sound that shattered my remaining willpower.
“I love you,” I groaned, flipping her over and pinning her into the mattress. “I’m never letting you go again… never.”
i kissed her hungrily, overtaking her breath in seconds, and she responded with a ferocity I’d never felt from her before.
We sank into the desire together, the room’s temperature spiking as the world outside ceased to exist.
I drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep, still holding her, my heart finally at peace.

I sat up, my eyes snapping open… The room was no longer dark.
Standing at the foot of my bed were the Pack Elders, the High Sentinels, and a crowd of Nightfang wolves, their eyes glowing with a mixture of shock, disgust, and curiosity.
The woman in my bed last night… was Sharon?
A surge of violent fury flooded my chest… The memories of last night turned into a nightmare.
One of the Elders, a graying wolf named Silas, stepped forward. His voice carried the weight of Pack Law. “Alpha Jensen… we were told the Alpha was hiding a secret within these walls. We didn’t expect to find you in the bed with the woman you claimed to have rejected as a mate.”
“Is this the woman you’ve been choosing over the pack’s interests, Alpha?” a High Sentinel barked, his eyes flashing yellow.
The pack members behind them began to whisper, their voices a low, rumbling growl of gossip.
In our world, the bond between a wolf and his fated mate is sacred. To be caught like this was a stain on my authority that could lead to a challenge for my position.
“This is my private residence,” I growled, my voice dropping into that low, lethal register. I stood up, grabbing a robe, my voice shaking the very walls. “How did you all get in?”
