Chapter 58 Shattered Illusions
Chapter 58 Shattered Illusions
Jensen’s POV
“Jensen, you can’t just pretend this never happened!” Sharon’s voice grated against my nerves.

I turned to see her sitting up in the bed holding her injured right hand. The gauze was a mess, soaked through with a glaring, vivid red. She looked pathetic, but all I felt was a cold, roiling disgust.
“We’re mated,” she continued, her voice rising with a frantic edge. “What we did was normal, even expected. What do you mean by treating me like this now? You were so… so devoted last night.”
“Get out. Now,” I said. I hadn’t touched a single drop of alcohol last night. So how? How could I have mistaken this hollow, manipulative woman for the soft, selfless warmth of Natalie?
*Jensen,” she whimpered, showing me her broken hand. “Are you sure the Witch Doctor isn’t at the black market? What am I supposed to do about my hand? It hurts so much… I need my wolf back, Jensen.”
“Go to a hospital,” I snapped, turning my back on her. “Maybe they’ll fix it, maybe they won’t. That’s your fate to bear, Sharon. Now get out before I lose what little restraint I have and drag you out myself.”
My wolf, Cairn, was pacing in the back of my mind; I had failed him… I don’t know what came over me. I hadn’t even managed to remain faithful to the memory of the only woman who ever truly loved me.
“Hansel!”
My voice rang through the room, and Hansel appeared instantly, as if he had been waiting for the signal. He was carrying a glass of water that had some herbs.
Sharon’s face went translucent. “Jensen… what are you doing?”
“I don’t want you pregnant,” I said, staring her down. “Take the drink…”
Sharon froze, her eyes widening in disbelief. “What did you say?”
She tried to reach for my arm, then hesitated, realizing she was still naked under the covers.
She curled back into the silk sheets, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Jensen, you know my health is fragile… the doctors said I might never be able to conceive. Taking the herbs could ruin that chance forever. Please… don’t make me do this. What if there’s already a life inside me?”
“That’s exactly why you shouldn’t get pregnant,” I countered, my brow creasing with a deep, permanent furrow of loathing. “Didn’t the doctors give you three months? A baby wouldn’t survive that timeline, Sharon. You’d just suffer needlessly; be rational and take the medicine.”
“I won’t!” She shook her head, tears spilling over her cheeks. “They only estimated three months. What if I beat the odds? What if motherhood gives me the strength to live? I might not even be pregnant–why are you being so cruel?”
I was done.
I shot a single, sharp glance at Hansel, and he moved without hesitation. He grabbed Sharon’s jaw, his grip like iron, and shoved
the drink into her mouth.

“No! Don’t–Hansel, how dare you?! I’m your Luna! Mmph-!”

She kicked and squirmed, her eyes wild with fury, but Hansel was a wall. Before she could spit them out, he tilted the glass and poured the water down her throat.
“Cough! Cough-!”
She choked violently as the liquid slid down; Hansel released her and stepped back.
SLAP
Sharon lunged forward, her good hand striking Hansel across the face with all the strength of her rage. His cheek swelled immediately, a dark red mark blooming on his skin, but he didn’t even flinch.
Sharon clawed at her throat, gagging, trying to retch the medicine up, but it was gone.
She looked at me, her eyes burning with a mixture of hatred and heartbreak.
“I’ll have Hansel bring you clothes,” I said, my voice empty of anything but cold resolve. “Get dressed and leave… don’t make me do something we’ll both regret.”
Sharon froze… She stared at me as if I were a stranger.
“Are you saying… you married me just to repay a favor?”
“Yes.”
The word landed like a guillotine blade.
“You’re telling me,” she asked, her voice cracking, “that you never had any feelings for me? That you married me just because I donated a rib to save your life?”
The accusation in her voice hung in the air. Had I ever loved her? Deep down, in the darkest corners of my heart, I knew I had once been moved by her. But standing here now, looking at the wreckage of my life, I couldn’t bring myself to admit that truth to her.
“You should leave.” my voice final as I turned to walk away.
As I passed Hansel, I spoke quietly, my eyes fixed on the door. “Go to the pack office. Have the guards go to Moonreign to help the pack.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Hansel nodded, entirely unbothered.
He turned to the huddled figure in the bed, his tone cool and detached. “Ms. Sharon, you have five minutes to dress. I’ll wait outside.”
“Get out!”
I entered the guest bathroom and stripped off my clothes and stepped into the bathroom.
I scrubbed my skin with so much anger; I wanted to scrape the scent of her off me. I wanted to peel back the layers of my own flesh until I felt clean again.
