Baron’s POV
Sean reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, sliding it into Susie’s palm.

His voice was a whisper, “This is what Mommy looks like. But Daddy said she might not look the same now… maybe you shouldn’t look yet.”
Regret flashed across his face, his fingers twitching as if to snatch the device back, but Susie’s grip was instant.
“I want to see.,” she insisted, her brow furrowed in a stubborn line as she tapped the gallery open.
The moment Natalie’s painted portrait filled the screen, Susie’s breath hitched. Her lips parted in silent awe. “You look just like Mommy, Sean.”
“And you too.” Sean’s mouth curved into a faint, proud smile.
The two of them whispered back and forth for the rest of the journey, their voices bright with an anticipation that made my own heart feel like it was being squeezed.
By the time the yacht stopped at the border of the pack, the guards bowed as the butler and his wife stepped out.
I stepped out next, the cold air of the estate biting at my lungs as I opened the door wider.
Susie quickly pressed the phone back into Sean’s hand, hiding their secret before I could comment. Together, hand in hand, they followed me inside, flanked by the butler and his wife.
Finn and Shauna were waiting in the foyer; the moment they caught sight of the children, the air in the room seemed to freeze.
“Hmm… Alpha… children?” Finn stammered, his jaw nearly hitting the floor.
I didn’t answer… I didn’t owe them explanations.
About ten years ago, I hadn’t been born into this leadership; I had carved my way to the top. I had challenged the former Alpha of this pack, and I had ended him in front of the entire assembly.
Finn had been that Alpha’s Beta, and by the laws of the pack, when I took the Alpha’s life, Finn became mine.
I kept him close because he knew the inner workings of the pack’s logistics, but I never kept him near..
And as for Shauna, she was selected by me.
I took a child in each hand and strode past them.
“Prepare two children’s rooms,” I ordered coolly, not looking back. “Tighten security, double the guard on the perimeter.. Nothing touches them.”

“Yes, sir.” Finn hurried off, his mind clearly reeling.

Shauna lingered, stealing a long, haunted glance at the twins before she quickly busied herself with the butler’s quarters, leaving us to our silence.
I had intended for the children to rest, to let the jet lag settle before I exposed them to the reality of the sterile ward, but they refused.
“Daddy, take us to Mommy now. Please,” Susie whispered, her eyes wide and pleading. “We want to see her.”
“Yeah,” Sean chimed in.
I looked at the heavy doors leading to the medical wing. “No… your mother doesn’t know about you both, so when you see her, you must be quiet. Do not wake her, just one look, then you rest. Daddy has to heal her tomorrow.”
“Okay. We promise.”
I felt a rare flicker of relief.
They were ready.
I led them into the sterile ward where the lights were dimmed.
On the bed lay Natalie.
The twins froze.
Moments ago, they had been giggling over a painting of a vibrant, beautiful woman, and now they stood before the reality.
Susie’s tears spilled over instantly, but Sean said nothing, but his face darkened.
“Why does Mommy look like this?” His voice was low.
I had braced myself for screams… Heck, I had expected them to turn away in fear, to reject the sight of her. Instead, my daughter wept for her mother, and my son’s face clouded with a silent, protective rage.
“She must hurt so much…” Susie’s soft voice trembled. “Daddy, who hurt her? Who’s the bad man?”
Natalie’s fingers twitched against the white linen.
“Natalie?”
I bent low, my heart hammering against my ribs. I called her name, searching for any sign of consciousness, but her eyes remained closed.
Had I imagined it? I stood paralyzed, watching the slight tremor of her hand.
I clenched my fist, forcing the frustration back, and gestured for the twins to come closer.

“Come,” I said softly. “Introduce yourselves to your mommy; she doesn’t know you’re here yet, but she can hear you.”
Susie hesitated, her fingers twisting in the hem of her sweater.
Sean, however, stepped forward without a second of doubt.
He stood right by the bedside and cleared his throat. “Mommy, my name is Scan. Daddy gave me this name, but I don’t like it. The meaning’s terrible; it means strategy and farewell. When you wake up, can you give me a new one? A lucky one?”
“Sean!”

Instead, the brat’s first words to his mother were a complaint about my naming skills.
But strangely enough, the heavy, suffocating atmosphere in the ward eased. It felt calm again.
Susie took her turn as she leaned in, her voice soft and sweet as a bell. “Mommy, my name is Susie. I don’t know why Daddy picked it, but I like it. It sound
like a flower; do you like it too?“.
My chest warmed… A daughter was indeed the softest armor a man could have.
I cast Sean a side–eye, but he ignored me, his gaze fixed on Natalie’s face.
“Mommy… I’m four years old already,” Sean said. “You missed all my birthdays, and you missed Susie’s too. This year, will you celebrate with us? Together?”
My heart twisted–together.
