Chapter 80 Poisoned Bonds
Sharon’s POV
She was an Alpha’s wife, unused to being spoken to like a servant, especially by her own blood.

“As long as you still care about the family, that’s enough,” she snapped, her voice trembling with suppressed fury. “Hurry back to the Nightfang pack now. Didn’t Jensen get a doctor for you? While you have the chance, act spoiled a little. Get him to give you the funds we need quickly… That’s what matters.”
“I know,” I replied, not bothering to look back at her as I turned on my heel.
I crossed the courtyard, the air smelling of smoke and the fading scent of the Pack’s old strength.
Near the stone fountain, I ran into Jenn, the family’s longtime housekeeper. She had been with the pack house since before I was born.
“Jenn,” I called out softly.
The did woman quickly smiled, her eyes crinkling. “Sharon! You’re back? I should thank you again–for hiring that specialist for my grandson the other day. Without your influence, he wouldn’t have survived the fever. From now on, my life belongs to you.”
Her grandson had suffered from moon sickness years ago, his condition had given me the idea.
I waved it off. I didn’t care about her grandson, but I cared about having an hall, lowering my voice to a whisper.

“My mom’s been a bit too active lately, Jenn. The stress of the alliance falling apart… it’s taking a toll. Get some medicine and mix it into her food… something to make her rest more.”
Jenn froze, her face paling. “You… you want me to drug Madam?”
“What are you thinking? That’s my mother,” I said, putting on a look of wounded shock. “How could I harm her? I just mean something with a little sedative so she can sleep more and recover. Her heart can’t take this constant pacing.”
Jenn exhaled, her hand going to her chest. “Ah, sleeping medicine. For her health.”
“Right. But don’t let her know,” I added quickly. “She’s been so restless over the Pack’s matters, and if she thinks I’m coddling her, she’ll just fight it. If this goes on, her health will collapse. I just want her to find some peace.”
I put on the mask of the worried daughter; it was a role I played better than anyone.
Jenn beamed, her loyalty solidified. “I understand. You’re the perfect daughter, Sharon–if the Alpha knew how much you cared, he’d be so pleased.”
“Don’t tell my dad either,” I snapped. Irritation flashed across my face; the woman was far too talkative.
If my father caught wind of it, he might ask questions I didn’t want to answer.

But then, a better calculation flickered in my mind. “Forget it, don’t get the medicine yourself. It my mom finds out, she’ll fire you, and I can’t protect you then. I’ll handle it and send the ‘supplements‘ to you later, then you just put it in her food. suspects the food tastes different, it won’t fall on you.”

Jenn sighed in relief, looking at me like I was her savior. “Of course, of course. I’ll keep it a secret.”
I left the estate, climbing into my car and pulling away from the Moonreign territory.

The moment I was on the main road, I dialed a number I had kept hidden–a contact from the darker corners of the black market.
“Get me a slow–acting poison,” I said the moment the line picked up. “Colorless, tasteless, and impossible to detect by standard pack physicians. I know your people have it. Whatever the price, I’ll pay.”
I hung up, my lips curling into a cold smile as I watched the pack estate disappear in the rearview mirror.
Old hag.
She really thought she could sell me out to Jensen for the sake of her “foundation“?
She thought she could hold the secret of my fake moon sickness over my head like a leash?
So what if she was my mother?
Everything I had now, I’d clawed out for myself. The Moonreign pack had robbed me of eighteen years of luxury, leaving me to be raised by a peasant, and now they still wanted to leech off my status as Luna?
Dream on.
Still, the old woman wasn’t entirely wrong.
I needed the Pack strong enough to cover me if Jensen ever turned. I needed them to be a shield, and once they had served their purpose, and once the “medicine” did its work, everything they owned would be mine alone.
I wouldn’t have to bargain with a ghost or a greedy mother ever again.
Baron’s POV
I was leaning over a table when my secure line buzzed; I answered it without looking.
“Witch Doctor,” a voice crackled. “Someone’s looking to buy slow–acting, colorless, tasteless poison. High grade.”
I rubbed my eyes, my voice lazy and bored. “People buy poison every day from the black market. Who’s the buyer?”
“Sharon.”
My eyes darkened instantly, and I sat up straight, the fatigue vanishing. “Who?”
“Jensen’s mate, Sharon Summers.”
A cold, dry smirk touched my lips. “Find out who she wants to use it on. Track everything from the purchase forward–leave a paper trail at every step, but make sure she thinks she’s being discreet. I want evidence for every milligram.”
“Yes, sir.”
The call ended.
Fleaned back in my chair, tapping a pen against the desk. “She really doesn’t know when to quit,” Imuttered to the empty room. “Sharon already has enough secrets, and now she’s handing me the perfect weapon to bury her with. How convenient
