The sterile room felt smaller than usual as I entered.

I held the falsified report in my hand – the one that claimed a non–match,

Yvonne wasn’t just a donor; she was a biological puzzle piece that fit Natalie so perfectly it defied logic.

Yvonne quickly stood as I entered, her eyes wide and full of unspoken questions.

She was vibrating with a nervous energy that I could feel in my bones.

I gave her a slight nod, a silent signal that the path was clear.

Yvonne’s face immediately lit up, “does that mean Natalie can finally have her surgery? The samples… they worked?”

“As long as you agree, the operation can begin at any time,” I replied calmly.

I looked at this girl, so much like her sister in her fierce loyalty, yet so different in her innocence.

“Silly girl,” I murmured, my voice dropping low. “I told you, Phantom’s sins aren’t yours to carry. She was a soldier; she knew the risks. But your heart… it’s rare in this world.” I paused, letting the weight of my next words settle.

“I’ll announce it to the Pack and to everyone else – from today onward, you are my sister. My real sister… You carry the Blackthorn

name now.”

Yvonne’s eyes brimmed with tears at my words.

To an exile like herself, the gift of a name, especially the Alpha’s name, was more valuable than all the gold in the city.

It meant protection.

It meant a home.

Just then, my black phone vibrated with a ping.

A message from Sean;

> “Daddy, you’ll never guess where Finn went! I tracked his personal signal. He’s at the National Hotel, room 303“

Beside me, I felt Yvonne freeze. I didn’t need to look at her to know she remembered the address from the mysterious, self destructing email she’d received earlier.

Could Finn really be the one behind the shadows?

Yvonne’s face showed pure disbelief, her pale skin turning even whiter.

My own expression grew grim, my jaw tightening until it ached. I pulled up the chat.

“Sean, cover your tracks,” I typed back, my fingers moving with clinical precision. “You’re not to interfere in this any further… Do not follow him.”

I didn’t want the children dragged into such tangled, bloody grudges.

Sean was a genius, but Finn was a predator. Sean didn’t argue; he sent a quick confirmation and went offline.

Yvonne’s eyes were red, the tears finally spilling over. “Alpha, it can’t be true, can it? I don’t believe Finn is that kind of man! Her voice was shaking now.

My own heart wasn’t any lighter… my bond with Finn had been forged in blood and battle; we were closer than I had expected. The thought of betrayal felt like a silver blade twisting in my gut.

Get ready – we’re going to the National Hotel” Yvonne blinked, startled by the suddenness of the order, then she nodded firmly, wiping her face. “I understand, Alpha. I’ll ask Finn myself why he did this… I’ll make him look me in the eye.”

She moved with a new, grim purpose, quickly arranging for the elite guards to watch over Natalie’s room before we left.

Even in her state of shock, she hadn’t forgotten her sister’s charge to protect the woman behind the glass.

Her care moved me more than I cared to admit.

“Yvonne,” I said as we reached the door. “I meant what I said, from today, you’re my sister and Natalie will be your sister–in–law. kly children will be your niece and nephew… You are a Blackthorn now, remember that when we face him.”

I had already given her the name, but saying it again now, with betrayal hanging in the air, felt strangely right.

“Thank you, Alpha. We’ll talk about this later… when we have the truth.”

With that, Yvonne hurried toward the armory to prepare.
