Natalie’s POV
He sat down, his presence causing a calm in my heart. “Your recovery will take time, Natalie,” he said, his voice low and calm. “Don’t push yourself… the Witch Doctor’s work is delicate, and the stitches are still fresh.”
“I can wait,” I murmured, my voice still sounding weird.
I looked up at him, my eyes darkening as a question that had been clawing at my mind finally found its way out. “But I want to know – whose skin is on me now? I know the science of our world, Baron. Finding a match is not an easy task and Shauna told me the grafts worked… she even said my face had been slightly adjusted to mend the damage. Whose grafts are on me, Baron?”
When I’d first woken, I was stunned.
Yvonne was supposed to be dead, lost in a wreckage on the road. Without her, who else could have provided a “True Match” on such short notice?
Baron’s smile widened faintly, a spark of pride flickering in his dark eyes as he revealed the truth of Yvonne’s staged death. The Blood–Puppet decoy the witch doctor had created that had died in her place to flush out the traitors.
I stiffened, a surge of worry rushing through me. “If Yvonne gave me everything… what about her? Will she have aftereffects? Is her wolf strong enough to survive that? Baron, where is she now?”
“She’s being looked after,” he reassured me softly, his thumb grazing the edge of my hand. “Her body needs time but she’ll recover… I’ve already commissioned the best healers to find skin for her too. Don’t worry, Natalie. I wouldn’t trade one sister for another.”
My brow furrowed, the logic not quite adding up.
I had read enough medical texts in the Pack libraries to know that a single shifter, even a strong one, couldn’t give away enough skin to cover the damage I had sustained without dying.
The aftermath of such a massive graft is brutal; the donor’s immune system often collapses before the recipient even begins to
heal.
A life for a life.
That was the Witch Doctor’s way.
My chest tightened, the bandages feeling like they were shrinking. “Baron, don’t lie to me. Tell me the truth, please. Can Yvonne truly be well? Or is she a shell of herself because of me?”
“She can.” He caught my bandaged hand gently, his voice lowering to a whisper. “Before Yvonne even agreed, I had already reached into the shadows of the black market and the high–society registries.”
“Did they match? I thought “I started but was interrupted.
“Yes, three other donors matched your unique signature. I didn’t take everything from Yvonne… I split the grafts among four separate donors, so no. And besides she’s my sister now, Natalie. Do you really think I’d use her life to buy yours?__
My eyes widened.

The weight on my chest lifted just a fraction. “Really? There were others?”
“Of course. I still have the records. Do you want to see the people who share your blood now?”
I nodded quickly.
These strangers had literally become a part of me… Literally.
I needed to know their names, to hold their faces in my mind so I could thank them when the bandages finally came off.
Baron reached into his pocket and handed me his phone.
On the screen were three digital profiles.
To my surprise, the donors weren’t random mercenaries or desperate pack–less wolves.
They were all from a single family.
“A family?” I asked, squinting at the screen.
“Yes. Quite a coincidence, isn’t it?” His lips curved faintly. “They aren’t ordinary wolves, Natalie. They belong to the Stone–Caravan
Pack.”
I had spent years working with nearly every pack on the continent, but this name was new. “Stone–Caravan? I’ve never heard of them.” I asked Baron and he nodded in understanding.
“They’re not really the usual type of packs… they’re mostly in the human world as elite merchants. They don’t lack money nor do they try to be like us, yet they’ve dedicated their entire lives to charity. After losing their young daughter to an illness, they’ve given blood, marrow, and now tissue – for decades all in her memory. Their eldest son, Caleb, recently took over the family company, still learning the ropes of the territory’s trade.”
I looked at the photos of the three men.
They looked sturdy and dangerous, but there was a kindness in their gaze that felt out of place in our violent world. “But why them?” I whispered. “Why would a merchant pack from the neutral zones give so much to a stranger in the North?”
Baron leaned in, his scent enveloping me.
His scent – sandalwood and something old and beautiful – wrapped tighter around me.
“Because they are Nomadic Wolves,” he explained. “Most packs tether themselves to a territory, and their DNA becomes rigid, territorial. But the Stones… they are always moving. Their cells are biologically designed to adapt to new environments, new climates, new hosts. That’s why the match was perfect.”
He reached out, his thumb tracing the edge of the sterile bandage on my cheek.
I listened with quiet awe.
In a world of Alphas who took what they wanted, here was a family that lived to give. “When I’m stronger… I want to thank them myself. I want to meet the people who gave me a second chance.”
“You will,” Baron promised.
His gaze softened as he watched me.

After a little more talk, the exhaustion I had been fighting finally claimed me.
My eyelids felt like lead.
Baron leaned over, tucking the blanket closer to my chin. “Rest, Natalie. We’ll have all the time in the world to talk once the moon is full again.”
“Alright,” I whispered, my lashes fluttering closed as I drifted into a dreamless sleep.
Baron’s POV
I stood by Natalie’s bed until her breathing evened out before I pulled my hand away and stepped out into the corridor.
‘When will you tell her about the Witch Doctor?‘ Raze finally spoke.
‘Soon… once she’s fully healed and free from the wither chill is finally out of her system.’
‘Hmm… when do I finally get to meet her?‘ Raze yipped happily in my head.
‘Soon Raze… Very soon‘
I went straight to Room 402 where Yvonne was.
