Chapter 122
Evelyn
When I realized I was in serious danger, urgent howls pierced the night air outside the warehouse. My shoulder throbbed where Austin had hit me earlier, but I kept my expression neutral as one of his men burst through the door, panic written all over his face.
“Sir, we’re surrounded! There are werewolves everywhere!”
Austin’s face contorted with rage as he turned to me, his fingers digging painfully into my arm. “You called your pack, didn’t you?”
I couldn’t help the cold laugh that escaped my lips. “I’ve been handcuffed this entire time.” I raised my bound wrists, the silver–lined cuffs burning against my skin. “What exactly do you think I used to contact them? Telepathy?”
Austin’s jaw clenched as he glanced between me and the panicking guard. Ethan stood silently in the corner, his expression unreadable as always. I fixed my gaze on my brother, the man who had betrayed our family repeatedly.
“This time you’ve really done it, Ethan,” I said, my voice low but clear. “You’re going to be expelled from the Gray family for good.”
Something flickered in his eyes–doubt, perhaps even fear. He’d always been desperate for our father’s approval, but kidnapping me and working with Austin crossed a line even Jonathan couldn’t ignore.
While Austin barked orders at his men, I focused on the silver handcuffs. They’d been careless, using standard police cuffs lined with silver rather than pure silver restraints. The burning sensation was painful but manageable, and the human–grade locks were laughably simple. Three years as Aurora had taught me more than just hacking. I twisted my wrists, ignoring the burning pain as I manipulated the internal mechanism.
With a satisfying click, the cuffs loosened. I kept my hands together, waiting for the right moment.
Austin returned his attention to me. “Your boyfriend’s pack won’t save you. We’ve lined the perimeter with silver powder charges.”
Ethan stepped forward suddenly, his face pale. “You didn’t mention explosives—”
Shut up! Austin snapped before turning back to me. “Last chance, Evelyn. Give me access to the Moonlight protocols, or this gets ugly.”
That’s when I made my move.
I dropped the handcuffs and sprang to my feet, startling both men. Ethan recovered first, lunging at me with his fist raised. Even weakened by the silver exposure, my reflexes were faster. I ducked under his swing and drove my knee into his stomach, following with an elbow to his back that sent him crashing to the floor.
Austin’s eyes widened in shock. “You little bitch-”
He came at me, more cautious than Ethan had been. We circled each other, and I saw genuine surprise in his expression as I matched his movements.
“You were faking it all along,” he growled, throwing a punch that I barely avoided.
“Not all of it, I replied, wincing as my bruised ribs protested. The silver had weakened me more than I wanted to admit.
Austin was faster than I expected for a human. He feinted left, then caught me with a right hook that sent me staggering. His lips curled into a triumphant
sneer.

Chapter 122
“You werewolves think you’re so superior,” he spat. “But silver makes you just as weak as the rest of us.”
Another howl, closer this time, echoed through the warehouse. Austin’s face darkened. He pulled a phone from his pocket and barked an order: ‘Detonate the perimeter charges. Now!”
My blood ran cold. “No! You’ll kill everyone out there!”
Austin ignored me, reaching behind his back to pull out a sleek black pistol. The telltale gleam of silver bullets in the magazine made my stomach drop.
‘I’m not letting Samuel have this technology, Austin said, aiming directly at me. “If I can’t have it, no one will.”
The gun cracked, and white–hot pain exploded in my shoulder. I screamed as the silver bullet tore through muscle and lodged near my collarbone. Silver poison immediately began spreading through my system, burning like acid in my veins.
“You promised we wouldn’t hurt her!” Ethan shouted, getting to his feet. “You said we just wanted the technology!”
Austin’s reply was cut off by a massive explosion that rocked the building. The concussion wave threw all of us to the ground as windows shattered and silver powder filled the air. I gasped, my lungs burning as I inadvertently inhaled the microscopic particles.
Through watering eyes, I saw Ethan crawling toward me. Another explosion, closer this time, sent debris raining down from the ceiling. Austin was shouting into his phone, but I couldn’t make out the words over the ringing in my ears.
“We need to go,” Ethan hissed, grabbing my uninjured arm. “Now!”
I wanted to fight him off, but the silver bullet and powder had sapped my strength. Ethan half–dragged, half–carried me toward a back exit while Austin was
distracted. The night air hit my face as we stumbled out into an alley where a beat–up van waited.
“Get in,” Ethan ordered, practically throwing me into the passenger seat before running around to the driver’s side.
The engine roared to life as another explosion rocked the warehouse behind us. Ethan floored the accelerator, and we lurched forward into the darkness. Pain radiated from my shoulder in waves, and I could feel warm blood soaking through my shirt.
“You can’t… run from this,‘ I gasped, pressing my hand against the wound. “Devon will… find you.“,
Ethan’s laugh was bitter. “You’re so confident, aren’t you? You always were.” He glanced at me, his expression hardening. “You know who really hated that
about you? Isabel.”
I frowned through the pain. ‘Grandma Isabel? What are you talking about?”
“You think she loved you so much?” Ethan sneered. “Isabel hated you most of all. You’re Jonathan’s daughter, and she knew it. She’s the one who sealed your
white wolf.
at him in shock, unable to process what he was saying. My grandmother had sealed my wolf? That The words hit me harder than any physical blow. I stared couldn’t be true. She had been the only one who understood me, who had taught me/about healing…
A sudden chill swept through my body, and I realized the silver poisoning was spreading fast. My vision blurred at the edges.
‘I need a hospital, 1 muttered, trying to
conscious. “Or let me get the bullet out myself.”
