Rise of the Banished She–Wolf
Chapter 127
Devon
I pulled my sleek black SUV into the parking lot of the Nursing Home, the tires crunching on the gravel beneath. My knuckles were white as I gripped the steering wheel, tension building in my chest. The pristine facility nestled among towering pines seemed peaceful enough, but I knew better than to trust
appearances.
Dr. Bennett sat in the passenger seat beside me, his weathered face a mask of determination. The old doctor hadn’t said much during our drive, but the tightness around his mouth spoke volumes.
“We’re here,” I said unnecessarily, killing the engine. “Are you sure this is a good idea?”
Bennett shot me a withering look. “William Gray needs to answer for what he’s done–or rather, what he’s failed to do for his granddaughter.”
I nodded, understanding the doctor’s protective instincts toward Evelyn. Hell, I felt the same way. Anyone who had hurt her deserved to face consequences.
As we approached the entrance, a tall man with silver–streaked hair emerged from the building. Marcus, William Gray’s loyal beta, looked surprised to see
“Mr. Hall, you’re here,” Marcus said, his eyes darting between me and Dr. Bennett. “Where’s Miss Lily? I thought she might accompany you.”
Before I could respond, Dr. Bennett stepped forward, his stance aggressive despite his age. “Hello, Marcus. Still playing lapdog to William after all these years?”
Marcus stiffened, recognition flashing in his eyes. “Dr. Bennett. It’s been a long time.”
“Not long enough,” Bennett muttered.
The tension between the two men was palpable, confirming what Felix had warned me about. I needed to know the full story.
Before I could intervene, the nursing home doors swung open again, revealing William himself.
“Maxwell, William’s voice was a low growl. “I thought I smelled something unpleasant in the air.”
“William, Bennett replied coldly. “Still alive, I see. What a disappointment.”
I stepped back, watching the two old men circle each other like wolves, despite their advanced ages. While they exchanged barbs, I caught Marcus’s eye and
tilted my head toward a nearby bench.
Once we were seated away from the feuding elders, I asked, “What’s the story between those two? Dr. Bennett and Mr. Gray clearly have history.”
Marcus sighed, rubbing his temple. “They were rivals–both in business and in love.“,
I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. “Love? They fought over a woman?”
“Not just any woman, Marcus replied. “Isabel Sterling, Evelyn’s grandmother. They both pursued her in their youth, but she chose William in the end.*
I whistled low. ‘And Bennett never got over it?”

“Some wounds never heal, Marcus said simply. “Especially when it comes to true mates.”
Our conversation was interrupted by raised voices. Bennett and William had moved their argument to a small garden area, and I hurried to join them, concerned about the elderly men’s health if the
their confrontation escalated.
I’m here for Evelyn,” Bennett was saying, his finger jabbing at William’s chest. “Your grandson kidnapped her and nearly got her killed!”
William’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Ethan did what?”
I stepped forward. “It’s true, sit. Ethan abducted Evelyn and took her to an abandoned chemical plant. He was working with Austin White, Samuel’s brother.”
The White family,” William spat on the ground. “Always causing trouble.”
Bennett wasn’t placated. “The Sterling family territory was meant for Evelyn, not for your family to steal. Isabel wanted her granddaughter to inherit
everything.”
William turned to me, ignoring Bennett’s accusations. “What happened to my grandson?”
“Ethan is in custody,” I answered. “The Seattle pack enforcers are holding him.”
“And Evelyn?” William asked, his voice softer.
“She was shot with a silver bullet, Bennett snapped before I could answer. “But you only care about that worthless grandson of yours, don’t you?”
William’s grip tightened on his cane. “Watch your tongue, Maxwell.”

“Or what?” Bennett challenged. “You’ll have me removed from your territory? Those days are long gone, William. You’re just an old man in a nursing home
now.
William’s eyes flashed amber, a sign of his wolf stirring despite his age. Bennett turned his back on the old Alpha, his disgust evident.
“From now on, I’ll be making decisions regarding Evelyn,” Bennett declared. “You’ve lost that right.”
As we walked back to the car, Bennett continued to mutter curses under his breath. “That old beast, still the same as ever. I should never have let Evelyn
come back here.”
Once inside the vehicle, Bennett turned to me, his expression grave. “There’s something you should know about Evelyn.”
I tensed, my protective instincts flaring. “What is it?”
“She wasn’t driven out of the Gray family,” Bennett said. “She was sold by Jonathan Gray to a man called Viper.”
My hands clenched into fists. “Sold? What do you mean?”
After she was framed at eighteen, Jonathan didn’t just kick her out–he handed her over to Viper, a man who runs an underground training facility. They ‘train‘ young wolves to become weapons, assassins.” Bennett’s voice broke. They tortured her, tried to break her.”
I felt sick, rage boiling beneath my skin as my wolf howled for vengeance. “How did she escape?”
“She didn’t talk about it much,” Bennett said, staring out the window. “But one day, she showed up at the school lab, bleeding from silver wounds. She extracted a silver bullet from her own body and stitched herself up. That’s when I found her.”

Chapter 127
The image of Evelyn, alone and wounded, performing surgery on herself made my heart ache. “You helped her.”
Bennett nodded. “I was amazed by her medical skills. Later, I learned she was Isabel’s granddaughter. I arranged for her to go to Portland, taught her everything I knew about medicine. She needed to be away from the Gray family’s influence.”
I drove in silence for several minutes, processing this new information. It explained so much about Evelyn–her independence, her wariness, her remarkable
ability to endure pain.
“Thank you,” I finally said, my voice thick with emotion. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for her. I promise you, she’ll be protected now. I’ll make sure
of it.
Bennett studied my face, his initial hostility softening somewhat. “I hope you won’t disappoint Evelyn, Mr. Hall. That child has suffered enough.”
“I won’t,” I vowed, my determination absolute. Nothing and no one would hurt Evelyn again–not while I had breath in my body.
As we drove back toward the hospital where Evelyn was recovering, my mind raced with plans, Jonathan Gray would pay for what he’d done. The White family would be dealt with. And Evelyn… Evelyn would finally have the protection, respect, and love she deserved.
