I drummed my fingers against Devon’s silk sheets, staring at my phone. Three days of being confined to this bedroom had left me restless, despite the luxury of the Hall mansion. My shoulder no longer ached from the silver poisoning. Being told to “rest” was driving me crazy.

With a sigh, I dialed Aiden’s number. If I couldn’t be physically active, at least my brain could get some exercise.

“Aurora,” Aiden answered on the second ring, using my hacker alias. “Shouldn’t you be resting?”

“I’m going to lose my mind if I have to stare at these walls any longer,” I replied, shifting to find a more comfortable position against the pillows. “What’s the progress on Anderson’s project?”

I heard keyboard clicks in the background before Aiden responded. ‘Dr. Anderson’s lab has been cleaned up after the incident. Everything’s back on track for the third phase trials, but…” He paused. “Edward specifically said you need to heal properly. He doesn’t want you involved until you’re better.”

I rolled my eyes. “My hand isn’t fully recovered, but you could assist me. I don’t need to be one hundred percent to monitor the data.”

“Not happening,” Aiden’s voice was firm. “You’re recovering from silver poisoning. Edward would have my head if I let you work now.”

“I’ll handle Edward,” I cut him off. “Just make the arrangements. I’ll let him know myself.”

Aiden sighed, knowing how stubborn I could be. “Fine. But there’s something else you should know. Audrey’s been kicked out of the Gray mansion too. She’s

moved into Ethan’s villa. I’m worried that-

I sensed his hesitation. “Just say it, Aiden.”

‘Jonathan’s pushed everyone away now. I’m concerned you’ll be his next target. Remember what happened with Viper?”

My blood ran cold at the mention of that name. The memories of being sold by my own father to that monster still haunted me.

“Maybe you should come to Boston for a while,” Aiden continued. At least Edward can protect you there.”

“He wouldn’t dare expose that, I said, my voice hardening. “Not unless he wants to sign his own death warrant. He knows what I’m capable of now.”

After hanging up, I pulled my laptop onto my knees, thinking about the upcoming competition. I was so focused that I didn’t hear Devon enter the room until his deep voice broke my concentration.

“You need more rest,” Devon said, his broad frame filling the doorway. His eyes narrowed at the sight of my laptop.

I quickly closed it, offering him a small smile. “I’ve been stuck in this room all day. I’m bored out of my mind.”

Devon crossed the room, sitting beside me on the bed. The mattress dipped under his weight, and I caught his familiar scent of pine and wilderness.

“I had this room equipped with everything you might need,‘ he said, reaching for a remote on the nightstand. With a press of a button, a panel in the wall slid open to reveal a state–of–the–art entertainment system. ‘Full projection capabilities, streaming services, gaming consoles…”

“You thought of everything,” I murmured, genuinely impressed.

His fingers brushed against mine, sending a familiar tingle up my arm. I wanted you to be comfortable.”

Devon picked up the remote again, scrolling through movie options before selecting one. As the film started, he settled back against the headboard next to me, our shoulders touching.

Half an hour into the movie, Devon turned to me. About that hacking competition next week… are you sure you’ll be ready to participate?”

I nodded firmly. “By next week, my shoulder should be healed enough.”
