Chapter 183

The crisp morning air hit my face as I walked toward the Hall Enterprises research facility. It was my second day here, and I was determined to
a breakthrough. I wasn’t leaving until we had real results to show for our work.
I swiped my blue access card through the scanner at the entrance, a soft blue light indicating successful verification before the heavy glass door with a gentle hiss. The security guard nodded respectfully as I passed.
‘Good morning, Ms. Gray,” he said. “Dr. Anderson is already waiting for you in Lab 3.”
“Thank you,” I replied, clipping the badge to my blouse.
The journey to the clean room involved three separate decontamination procedures. First, an air shower that blasted away any external particles, t sanitization chamber, and finally, a specialized antimicrobial mist designed specifically for werewolf researchers–ensuring it wouldn’t irritate our
senses.
After changing into the pristine white lab coat, I carefully adjusted my protective goggles and pulled on the specialized silver–resistant gloves Devo specially commissioned for me. The material felt strange against my skin–lightweight yet impenetrable.
“Evelyn!” Dr. Anderson’s enthusiastic voice greeted me as I stepped into Lab 3. His eyes crinkled above his mask. “Just in time. Everything’s set up ex
your specifications.”
I glanced around, momentarily stunned by the array of equipment surrounding us. High–powered electron microscopes, centrifuges, and DNA sequence
hadn’t been there yesterday now lined the walls.
“This is… incredible,” I managed, walking closer to examine the newest model of genetic analyzer These weren’t here yesterday.”
Dr. Anderson beamed. “Mr. Hall heard about your requirements last night, and by this morning, everything was delivered and calibrated. Quite impressiv
even for Hall Enterprises standards.”
A warm sensation spread through my chest. Devon might be overprotective and occasionally infuriating, but his support for my research was unwavering.
“Well then,” I said, pulling my hair back into a tight bun, “let’s not waste time.”
The morning passed in a blur of focused intensity. I carefully prepared tissue samples from werewolf volunteers, labeling each with different silver concentrations. The team worked in synchronized efficiency–Aiden managing the data input, Dr. Anderson overseeing the chemical reactions, while I observed the microscopic interactions between silver particles and werewolf DNA.
“Look at this, I murmured, adjusting the microscope. “When the silver concentration reaches 0.03%, the cellular degradation accelerates exponentially,
but…”
I carefully added a drop of the compound I’d been developing.
“The degradation slows by approximately 68% with the compound, Dr. Anderson finished, peering over my shoulder at the monitor. “That’s the best result
we’ve had so far.”
Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I meticulously recorded the changes in each sample. After five hours of concentrated work, my back ached from bending over equipment, but my mind buzzed with excitement. We were getting closer to developing a treatment that could potentially save countless werewolf lives from silver poisoning.

Chapter 183
“I think we’ve earned a break,” Aiden announced, stretching his arms above his head. “It’s
past one, and I’m starving.”
I hadn’t realized how much time had passed. “You’re right. Let’s regroup in the break room.”
The staff break room at Hall Enterprises was nothing like the cramped spaces I was used to at the university. Sleek furnishings, a fully stocked refrigerator and floor–to–ceiling windows overlooking Seattle created an atmosphere more suited to a high–end restaurant than a research facility.
I collapsed into a chair, finally feeling the morning’s exhaustion catching up to me, Grabbing a simple salad and protein shake from the refrigerator, I bega planning our afternoon approach.
“If we modify the molecular structure slightly, I suggested between bites, “we might be able to increase the binding efficiency to-”
“Holy shit!” Aiden suddenly exclaimed, staring at his phone with wide eyes.
Dr. Anderson and I looked up, startled by his outburst.
“What is it?” I asked, setting down my fork.
Aiden’s face was a mixture of shock and concern as he turned his phone toward me. “You need to see this. Devon and Shawn are literally fighting at Sterling
Mansion.”
My heart dropped as I took the phone. On screen was a security feed showing the garden of Sterling Mansion. Devon and Shawn were locked in what could only be described as a half–shifted brawl–claws extended, eyes glowing, throwing each other against trees and statues.
“What the hell?” I whispered, my salad forgotten. “Where did you get this?”
I was checking the security feeds around Sterling Mansion after that whole Crimson incident, Aiden explained hurriedly. “Just routine monitoring, and then I saw this happening live.”
I watched in horror as Devon’s eyes flashed Alpha gold, his movements precise and powerful as he slammed Shawn against a garden wall. Shawn, despite being clearly outmatched, fought back with unexpected ferocity.
My plate clattered against the table as I stood abruptly, fishing my phone from my pocket. My fingers trembled slightly as I dialed Devon’s number, anger and confusion building inside me.
