Chapter 186

“Let me take over,” I said to Aiden, sliding my chair closer to the main terminal. I could feel my silver–gray eyes reflecting the screen’s glow as I accessed system’s deepest tracking protocols.
For several tense minutes, the only sounds in the lab were the clicking of keyboards and the hum of equipment. Then my hands stilled above the keyboar
my expression hardening.
“Got them, I announced quietly. “Rest area, Room 8.”
Dr. Anderson’s face paled. “Miles? It can’t be…”
‘Send security now,” I ordered, my voice cold with betrayal. “Use silver handcuffs. He’ll try to shift to escape.”
Dr. Anderson slammed his hand on the desk, his usually calm demeanor shattered by anger. “That traitor! I trusted him more than anyone on my team!” H reached for the security phone. “Security to Rest Area 8. Suspect is trying to exfiltrate confidential data. Use containment protocol Silver.”
Minutes later, we heard a commotion down the hall–shouts, the sound of furniture overturning, then heavy footsteps approaching. Two security officers entered the lab, holding Miles firmly between them. The silver handcuffs around his wrists prevented him from shifting, and his face showed both defiance
and defeat.
“Take him to the conference room,” I instructed. “We’ll deal with this privately.”
In the conference room, Miles sat calmly despite being caught red–handed. His amber eyes, chara The security guards positioned themselves by the door as Dr. Anderson, Aiden and I entered.
‘So tonight’s little drama was a trap?” Miles asked, lifting his cuffed hands slightly. “Well played.”
“We’ve suspected a leak for weeks,” I replied coldly. “We just needed to confirm who it was.”
his wolf nature, flashed with suppressed anger.
Dr. Anderson stepped forward, disappointment etched into every line of his face. “You were my best researcher, Miles. The one I was grooming to eventually take over the department. Why would you betray Hall family like this?”
Miles laughed bitterly, shaking his head. “We’ve conducted five trials, each one a failure. This project is never going to succeed–it’s a pipe dream!” He leaned forward, cuffs clinking against the table. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to work on something for years with nothing to show for it?”
‘So you sold us out,” I stated flatly. “To whom?”
Miles hesitated before answering. “I’m not going to tell you who they are. They offered nie a sum that would not only cover my mortgage but secure my family’s future for years to come.” His voice dropped slightly. “My wife is pregnant. I can’t live on promises anymore.”
Something snapped inside me. All the frustration from Devon’s fight with Shawn, the pressure of the research, and now this betrayal converged into a wave
of fury.
Before I could stop myself, I lunged forward and slapped Miles hard across the face. Twice. Then I kicked his chair out from under him, sending him sprawling to the floor.
Evelyn! Dr. Anderson called out in surprise, but made no move to stop me.

Chapter 186
Miles touched his reddened cheek, looking up at me with a mixture of shock and anger. ‘Impressive strength for a Wolfless,” he spat.
I stood over him, my chest heaving. “Everything you have–your position, your achievements, your status–Devon gave those to you, I snarled. “And this is
how you repay his trust?”
Miles struggled to his feet, the silver handcuffs limiting his movements. “Ive dedicated two years of my life to this project! Two years with nothing to show for it except ‘next time, it might work. My family needs stability, not endless promises!”
“You think you’re the only one under pressure?” My voice rose. “Everyone in this lab is working under the same conditions, yet nobody else decided to betray
the team and their oath!”
Dr. Anderson stepped forward, his face flushed with anger. “Do you know who among us had the highest salary? You! Who received extra monthly allowances to address your financial concerns? You! Devon personally approved those bonuses!”
Miles’s expression faltered slightly, a flicker of guilt crossing his features.
Dr. Anderson suddenly clutched at his chest, his face paling alarmingly. I immediately moved to his side, guiding him to a chair.
“Your medicine,” I demanded, helping him fish out a pill bottle from his lab coat pocket. I quickly gave him a tablet and a glass of water, monitoring his pulse with two fingers on his wrist.
“Take deep breaths,” I instructed calmly. After a few moments, Dr. Anderson’s color began to improve.
