Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 6

**TITLE: Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 6**

**Evelyn**

As I stepped through the imposing front door of the Gray family mansion, a wave of regret washed over me, heavy and suffocating. The atmosphere inside felt starkly different from my memories; it was colder, more sterile, as if the very walls were adorned with the trappings of a beautifully crafted prison rather than a home. Each step echoed with the weight of unspoken histories and unresolved tensions.

In the living room, Victoria and Kate were poised like predators, their eyes glinting with a mix of judgment and expectation. Victoria’s expression was one I had come to know all too well—an unwavering mask of disappointment that seemed to accuse me of every mistake I had ever made.

“Coming home at this hour? What were you doing out there?” Victoria’s voice cut through the silence, sharp and unyielding, devoid of any semblance of a warm welcome.

Kate, ever the actress, flashed a saccharine smile that did little to mask her true intentions. “Sister, it’s dangerous to be out so late. You know the family rules…” Her tone dripped with feigned concern, a performance I had grown weary of.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at Kate’s perfectly curated facade. “Kate, if Hollywood ever needs a new star, you’d be their first pick. Your acting skills are improving by the day,” I retorted, sarcasm lacing my words.

Without waiting for their inevitable lecture to escalate, I turned on my heel and made my way upstairs. But I could still hear Victoria’s voice ringing through the air, laden with disdain. “Look at her! Making the Gray family a laughingstock in the entire werewolf community!”

Kate’s voice followed, deliberately loud enough for me to catch every biting word. “She almost caused a disaster last time… you know, that incident…”

The grip on the stair railing tightened as I fought to ignore their barbs, refusing to let their words penetrate the armor I had built around myself.

When hunger finally coaxed me back downstairs, I entered the kitchen only to find it immaculate—almost unnaturally so. Not a crumb remained, and the refrigerator was a barren wasteland, devoid of even the most modest leftovers.

Victoria leaned against the doorframe, her arms crossed, a cold smile playing on her lips. “We’ve already eaten. Coming home at this hour means you’ll have to fend for yourself.”

As Kate casually strolled past me, her tone dripped with false sympathy. “Want me to cook something for you?” The glimmer of mockery in her eyes was unmistakable.

“Don’t bother,” I replied, my voice steady, even though a pang of hurt twisted in my chest. “I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.”

I reached for an apple from the fruit bowl—the only food they couldn’t hide from me—and took a deliberate bite, savoring the crispness. I refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me desperate or defeated.

Once back in my room, I powered up my customized laptop—a seemingly ordinary device, but one I had fortified with layers of encryption that I had painstakingly developed.

As I settled into my digital sanctuary, I transformed into Aurora, my online persona. An alert from Aiden flashed across the screen, warning me of a potential breach targeting Hall Corporation’s systems. Within moments of infiltrating their network, my worst fears were confirmed—an anti-werewolf organization was attempting to siphon sensitive data from Hall’s latest medical project.

“Figures,” I muttered under my breath, my fingers flying over the keyboard with practiced precision. “Some people’s hatred knows no bounds.”

With a focus that felt almost surgical, I intercepted the attack, locking down the enemy’s data with deft maneuvers. The zealots had no idea who they were up against—Aurora never fails. I sent the crucial intel to Aiden and was just about to erase my digital footprints when my bedroom door swung open with a sudden force.

Heart racing, I slammed my laptop shut, the adrenaline coursing through my veins, but not before catching a glimpse of a trace notification flashing ominously on my screen.

Kate stood in the doorway, her expression a mix of curiosity and suspicion. “What are you doing that’s so secretive?” she asked, her eyes narrowing.

“Ever heard of knocking?” I shot back, sliding my laptop under my pillow as if to hide my secrets. “What do you want?”

She stepped into my room uninvited, her gaze sweeping over my space with a critical eye. “Mother sent me to tell you that you need to attend the family meeting tomorrow. Though honestly, I don’t see why you should be included in family decisions after being gone for three years.”

Once she finally left, I reopened my laptop, dread pooling in my stomach as I noticed what I had feared—someone at Hall Corporation was attempting to trace Aurora’s signal back to its source.

“Damn it,” I whispered, urgency propelling my fingers across the keyboard as I reinforced my digital shields and wiped all evidence of my activities.

I had been reckless. Operating as Aurora from the Gray family mansion was a gamble I couldn’t afford. If anyone uncovered my hacker identity while I was under this roof, it would spell disaster—not just for me, but for Grandfather as well.

A swift decision crystallized in my mind. To reclaim my rightful place within this family, I needed a secure location, somewhere I could operate without prying eyes or looming threats.

Suddenly, all data streams reversed direction. One by one, the intruders’ attacks were thwarted. The system firewall rebuilt itself at an astonishing rate, and our core data was safeguarded perfectly.

“This… this is impossible,” Mark stammered in disbelief. “Aurora has single-handedly dismantled an entire hacker team. It’s like witnessing a legend come to life!”

I stared at the flickering aurora symbol on the screen, a surge of curiosity igniting within me. Who was this enigmatic hacker?

“I want to know Aurora’s real identity and location,” I commanded, a sense of urgency creeping into my voice. “Track the signal completely.”

Mark quickly reported back, “We can only trace it to a general area… Aurora is right here in Seattle!”

My gaze sharpened, determination flooding my veins. “Contact Moonlight. I want to meet Aurora in person. This is critical for the safety of our entire werewolf community.”

After the meeting concluded, Elder Richard lingered, his expression serious as he addressed me privately.

“Devon,” he said bluntly, “you’re 35 now. As the Alpha of Seattle’s wolf pack, it’s time you found a mate.”

I remained calm, my focus unwavering. “I have more pressing matters to attend to at the moment.”

Richard frowned, his tone grave. “An Alpha without a mate is seen as unstable. The Council has already begun considering others to replace your position.”

A sharp light flickered in my eyes, a mix of anger and resolve. “Anyone who challenges my position should be prepared to face the consequences.”

Richard sighed, shaking his head as he departed. I turned my gaze out the window, taking in Seattle’s nightscape. Strangely, my thoughts were not consumed by the myriad of werewolf women vying for my attention, but rather by the haunting image of that mysterious white wolf girl—Evelyn Gray.

Those striking silver-gray eyes, the rare bloodline of the white wolf, and her exceptional medical skills… why couldn’t I shake her from my mind?
