Chapter 74
Leo couldn’t get through to Alicia.
He turned to his three sons. “Find a way to get in touch with her
“I need to have a serious talk with her and find out why she’s doing this.”
Kevin and his brothers were at their wits’ end.
If they could get in touch with Alicia, they would’ve done it already.
Suddenly, Caleb turned to Kevin. “Kevin, Alicia switched to Lucent Media, and Jason Farrell is her new agent now.
“He must know how to reach her.”
Caleb didn’t have Jason’s contact info.
Besides, he and Jason had never gotten along back in school, so there was no way he’d reach out to him.
But Kevin, on the surface, didn’t have any issues with Jason.
Kevin nodded. “Alright, I’ll try reaching out to Jason.”
He’d exchanged numbers with Jason at a business conference once.
At Alicia’s home.
Jason’s phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID but didn’t pick up right away.
Instead, he turned to Alicia. “It’s Kevin calling you.”
Alicia wasn’t surprised. She figured the old man would be trying to track her down for answers.
But she didn’t feel like talking to him.
She said, “Send him that video of me talking to Diana and the rest from the other day.
“And tell him that’s the reason I’m done with them.”
After chatting with Diana and the others, she’d asked Jason to get the surveillance footage from the production team and cut out that segment.
‘I knew they’d pull something like this, Alicia thought, unfazed.
Jason nodded. “Alright, I’ll send it.”
He picked up the call. “Kevin, what’s up?”
Kevin didn’t waste any time. “Jason, I need to reach Alicia ASAP.ould you give me her number?”
Jason was straightforward. “No can do. She’s dropped her old number for good-she doesn’t want to talk to any of you anymore.”
Kevin felt pretty awful inside. “Does she see us as monsters or something?”
Jason replied, “No, not monsters. She just gets fed up seeing you all.”
Kevin was speechless. ‘Honestly, that answer was worse than saying nothing,’ he thought.
“Could you let her know? Just tell her Dad wants to see her.
“Or maybe she could just give him a call and have a quick chat.”
Jason replied, “What’s there to talk about? You want to ask her why she’s breaking things off for good?”
E55 vouchers
Kevin frowned. “Yeah, it’s not like things were ever that bad between us. I just don’t get why she’d want to shut us out completely.”
Jason replied, “If you still have no clue why she wants to cut you off, it just means you never bothered to really care about her.
“So why keep pestering her?”
Kevin looked upset. “She’s our sister. Of course we care about her!”
Jason scoffed. “Put me on speaker. I’ll tell you exactly why.”
Kevin covered the phone and glanced at his dad for the go-ahea
His dad nodded, so Kevin switched to speakerphone. “Go ahead.
Jason’s voice cut through the room, sharp and direct. “Have any of you ever taken the time to get her a real gift, even once?
“Did any of you ever bring her anything back from abroad, just for her?
“Did you ever give her pocket money, or make sure she had what she needed-food, clothes, anything?
“Her favorite flowers get pulled out, her stuff gets taken from her just like that.
“But if any of you felt sick, she’d put together herbal meals or make medicinal incense for you.
“Where were you when she was in the hospital?
“She doesn’t break down in tears or act like she can’t live without you, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need love or care.
“When you wanted her, she was your daughter, your sister. When you didn’t, it was suddenly the stepdaughter and stepsister who was the most considerate one.
“Do you even realize how you treat her compared to Nicole? Seriously, don’t you see the difference?
“And most importantly-do you really think things are just the way you see them?
“You never actually stop to figure out who’s really in the wrong of who’s just faking it. You just try to calm one person down and push the other aside to keep the peace, then act like the family’s all good.
“There are things you could’ve figured out easily if you’d just bothered to look into it, but you never even cared enough to try.
“Like, why Alicia got trashed all over the internet and everyone was hating on her.
Once he was done, he saw Alicia beaming at him.
He couldn’t help but laugh. “Guess I got a little carried away. You don’t mind, do you?”
He really felt bad for Alicia.
If he ever had someone who treated him that good, who always had his back like that, he’d never take them for granted.
Alicia chuckled. “Not at all. Honestly, thank you for saying what we always wanted to say?”
If she’d said it herself, they’d just accuse her of throwing a fit again.
She’d tried speaking up before, but every time she got misunderstood, so she gave up trying. What was the point, anyway?
Just like Jason said, they always took advantage of how much she cared about them, which is why they could be so openly unfair.
She joked. “Never thought our famously aloof genius would ever go on a talking spree like this.”
Back in the day, Jason had a reputation for being totally untouchable.
Jason let out a helpless laugh. “Who else but you would get me to do all this?”
Alicia’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “For me, huh? Well then, dinner’s on me-my way of saying thanks!”
Jason grinned. “So, are we eating out or is this a home-cooked deal?”
Alicia arched an eyebrow. “Eating out, obviously. If I cooked, you might not survive the experience.”
Jason blinked. “Why not? Aren’t you a master at herbal dishes? Your regular cooking must be amazing too, right?”
Alicia had whipped up herbal meals for him a couple times when he wasn’t feeling well, and honestly, they tasted so good you’d never guess they were healthy stuff.
Alicia gave him a helpless look. “Not even close.”
I’m great at medicinal cuisine-I know how to make the herbs work their magic and hide all the weird flavors with the right ingredients.
“But when it comes to normal cooking? I’m a total disaster in the kitchen. Even I can’t choke down what I make.”
Jason burst out laughing. “Man, talk about a plot twist!
“I’m actually pretty good in the kitchen. Once my leg’s healed up and I’m back on my feet, I’ll whip something up for you- you’ll see.”
Alicia’s eyes lit up. “Sounds awesome! I definitely have to taste the genius’s cooking.”
Then the two of them headed out for dinner.
Alicia might be hopeless in the kitchen, but she was a total foodie. She took Jason to a private kitchen-style restaurant, famous for its specialty dishes you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
They spent the whole meal cracking jokes and having a blast together.
On the other side of things, back at the Hammonds’ place.
The Hammond father and sons watched the video Jason had emailed them, and the room went dead quiet
