Chapter 149
Austin shot a wary look at Mavis and Nicole.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
Mavis grinned. “Your dad already gave me the deed to this house. From now on, this place is mine, so you guys are the ones who need to get out.”
After Leo signed the property transfer agreement, he also gave a lawyer power of attorney to handle everything for him.
Julian made sure everything was taken care of for Mavis and Nicole.
The house and other fixed assets ended up under Mavis’s name.
The shares and most of the remaining assets were switched over to Nicole.
That’s the real reason they finally let Leo walk free.
Austin turned to Leo Hammond. “Dad, is what she said true?”
Leo’s face was grim. “Yes, it’s true.”
Austin and Caleb gaped at him, totally shocked. “Dad, even now, you’re still favoring them?”
Kevin frowned. “Dad, did they force you into this?”
Before Leo could respond, Mavis jumped in, “What nonsense! Your dad handed everything over to me of his own free will.
“Oh, and I almost forgot to mention.
“From now on, the Hammond Group is under new management. Nicole is the new chairwoman.”
Nicole stepped forward, flashing Kevin a smile. “Kevin, guess I’ll be relying on you at the Hammond Group from now on.”
The brothers’ faces darkened. “What gives you the right to be the new chairwoman?”
They realized right away-Mavis had kept their dad under lock and key just to seize the Hammond family’s fortune. They couldn’t help but feel grateful all over again that their mom had left them that safety net before she passed away.
If it weren’t for that, their dad would’ve lost everything in his old age.
But for now, they just pretended they had no idea about that safety net.
For now, they’d just go along with Mavis and Nicole’s little show, planning to use them as bait to finally lure out Julian, the real mastermind behind all this.
Even though they were burning with frustration and wanted nothing more than to toss Mavis and Nicole out on the spot, they had to swallow their anger for now and put up with it.
Nicole took obvious pleasure in watching their faces change. “Of course, Leo’s the one who gave me the authority.”
The brothers were about to protest, but Leo cut them off with a raised hand. “That’s enough. I can give my assets to whoever I want.
“If you want something, go earn it yourselves.”
The brothers were stunned, staring at him in disbelief. “Dad!”
But Leo didn’t even spare them a glance. “Just go. Find somewhere else to live, and come back in a few days to pick up your things.”
With that, he didn’t bother with them anymore and went straight upstairs to his bedroom. stuff out.”
The brothers were left standing there, still in shock, unable to believe what had just happened.
Mavis smirked at them. “You’ve got a week to get out. If you don’t, I’ll have the staff toss your
Austin gave her a cold, mocking smile. “Look at you, all smug now that you think you’ve got the upper hand.”
Mavis raised an eyebrow. “Say whatever you want. From now on, the Hammond family belongs to me and Nicole. You two aren’t the privileged Hammond heirs anymore.”
‘Man, it feels damn good to be the one calling the shots now,’ Mavis mused, a wave of smug delight washing over her.
Austin was about to say something else, but Kevin held him back. “Dad’s been totally brainwashed by them. Let’s just go for now.”
He grabbed his brothers and hustled them out of there.
Meanwhile, Mavis and Nicole were popping champagne, celebrating like they’d just won the lottery.
As for Leo, still up in his bedroom, the two of them couldn’t care less about him.
With that drug in his system, no matter how tough he tried to act, he’d have to bend to their will sooner or later.
From now on, the Hammond family was finally theirs.
Since Leo came back safe and claimed he’d just been traveling, the report Kevin made didn’t stick, so it got tossed out.
That’s when Mavis and Nicole finally breathed easy.
A few days went by.
Nicole urged Leo to bring her to the office.
Leo gave her a deep, thoughtful look. “I hope you can keep your seat as chairwoman at the Hammond Group.”
Nicole smiled. “Appreciate the good wishes, Dad.”
With shares in hand and her dad’s supporters behind her, she was confident she’d secure her position at the Hammond Group in no time.
Even though the shares weren’t in her name, Mavis still wanted to be involved herself and get her share of the biggest spoils.
