Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings novel Chapter 210

Chapter 210: What Is She?

She felt it move through her the way she had never felt things move through her before....through years of service and watching and waiting.

Things that came once in a generation. Things that rewrote the order of everything.

She had been waiting for this.

She just hadn’t known it would look like this.

Then the light faded.

The crack in the floor ran from under the door to the far wall.

Mara straightened and smoothed her robe.

Agnes was in the kitchen when it happened.

She had both hands on the counter before she understood why she’d grabbed it. The bowl she’d been holding was on the floor in pieces and she didn’t remember dropping it. The kitchen felt different. The air felt different.

It felt heavy and charged and full of something she didn’t have a name for but recognized the way you recognized the smell of rain before it arrived.

She stood very still for a long moment.

Then she said.....very quietly, to no one in particular.....

"There she is."

Nicholas’s POV

He came back slowly.

His hands first. He was looking at his hands and they were shaking. Nicholas Blackwood’s hands did not shake. They had not shaken in twenty six years. He stared at them like they belonged to someone else.

Then the room.

The cracked floor. The missing windows. The curtains gone. The cold morning air coming in and the gold light still fading from it....slow, like something reluctant to leave.

Then Lilith.

He looked at her for a long time.

Unconscious on the mattress. Completely still. Her chest rising which means that she was alive. Her hair spread across the pillow and the mark on her throat pulsing gold....steady and rhythmic and permanent and his.

He had done that.

Kael had done that.

The distinction felt important and also completely irrelevant.

The room was silent.

Sebastian lowered his arm from his face.

He looked at Nicholas.

Nicholas looked back at his brother.

Sebastian’s eyes moved to the mark. To the cracked floor. To Nicholas’s shaking hands. Then back up to his face.

Lucian was sitting on the edge of the bed.

He hadn’t moved since the light. Zev had pulled back....quiet now, settled in a way Nicholas had never felt from Lucian’s wolf settle before. Like something that had been searching had stopped searching. Lucian was looking at Lilith’s face and his expression was something Nicholas didn’t have a word for.

"What is she?" Lucian asked quietly.

Nobody answered.

Nicholas looked at his own hands.

He thought about the text in the east library. His father’s locked cabinet. Pages he’d read at sixteen and had told himself were theoretical. Historical.

Relevant to nothing in the present world.

He thought about her hands glowing gold in the dark four hours ago.

He thought about the floor cracking from the bed to the door.

An entire territory feeling one woman’s power break free from a single room.

He looked at the mark on her throat.

His mark.

He had not chosen to put it there. Kael had. months of caging had found their moment and taken it regardless of what Nicholas had built to hold him back and the wall had not held and Nicholas was standing in the aftermath of that and feeling something he had not felt in a very long time.

Not regret.

Not exactly.

Something more like reckoning.

"Nicholas." Sebastian’s voice. Flat. Both question and warning in one word.

Nicholas looked up.

Sebastian’s eyes were steady. Patient in a way that meant the patience had a limit.

"Now what."
